Abstract

This research aims to know genetic relationship of languages in north area of Jayapura regency, Papua province. Comparative historical theory with quantitative method are used to analyze the languages relationship. The result of analysis shows that eight languages in north area of Jayapura regency do not belong to the same language group. Tevera Pew (Te), Tabla (Ta), Yokari (Yo), and Sentani (St) languages form their own language group as 40,45% cognate words similarity with the name of Tevera Pew-Tabla-Yokari-Sentani. Languages of Tevera Pew-Tabla-Yokari-Sentani derived from Tevera Pew-Tabla-Yokari-Sentani proto. This proto then split to four languages as we found right now. Demta language (De) proven to be out part Tevera Pew-Tabla-Yokari-Sentani language family. Mooi (Mo) and Gresi (Gr) create their own language family with 52,26% similarity of cognate words. Meanwhile, Ormu (Or) and Tarpia (Ta) languages are not belong to any language stock. Ormu (Or) and Tarpia (Ta) only have 9, 28% similarity cognate words. That’s why they do not belong to one language stock.

Abstract

This paper aims to know code choosing of Javanese-Indonesian for the family domain of Javanese native speaker at Karang Malang. Secondly, it is also purposes to analyze the impact of age on language choosing. This is a sociolinguistic research by quantitative method.There was a finding that the younger respondents tend to speak Indonesian more often. Thus, it is an indication of language infiltration from Indonesian to Javanese. The age factor on language choosing is supported by Analyzed of Variant .

Abstract

This paper discusses about Papuan Malay Dialect, one of the variant of Malay language used in Papua. It aims to recognize the origin of this dialect, when it is started to use and about its spread around. Method which is used in this paper is literature review and the result shows us that this dialect is a variant of Malay language which comes from West Kalimantan. This variant spread out in Papua region about VII century A.D. It is spread out by three mutually complement courses, namely, missionary, trade, and political courses. Missionary course occurs when Islam and Christian started to be spread out in Papua. Trade course occurs through trading contact between Malay speaker and Papuan indigenous people. And then political course occurs through political contact between authority in Papua and another one, either in Nusantara (Indonesia) or abroad.
