Abstract

METAPHOR OF MODALITY IN CLASSROOM INTERACTION *Raissa Sati ** Dr. Siti Aisah Ginting, M.Pd **Indra Hartoyo, S.Pd, M. Hum ABSTRACT This study aims at analyzing the types and realization of metaphor of modality in classroom interaction of grade eleven Global Prima National Plus Medan. Qualitative research design was used by the researcher to conduct this study. The subjects of this study were the teacher and the students in grade eleven Global Prima National Plus Medan in academic 2018/2019. The data were collected by observed and recorded to find the types of metaphor of modality being used and also to find out how the metaphor of modality is realized in classroom interaction. The data were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman data analysis technique. The findings of the study show that teacher and students used all the types of metaphor of modality in classroom interaction, such as modalization (probability 86,79% with 46 occurances, usuality 1,88% with 1 occurance) and modulation (obligation 3,77% with 2 occurances, inclination 7,54% with 4 occurances) . Metaphor of modality in classroom interaction was realized by the category probability (think, believe, possible), usuality (ussually), obligation (be obligied to) dan inclination (be allowed, recommend, permission). Registration Number: 2163121044. Developing Media By Using Podcast in Teaching Listening of Recount Text to Grade X Students of Tourism Vocational School. A Thesis. English Educational Program. State University of Medan.2020. The study was aimed to develop media by using Podcast in teaching Listening of Recount text to grade X students of Tourism Vocational School. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R&D) design through six stages: gathering the data, need analysis, design media, validating by experts, revising, and final project. The subject of the study was Grade X Students of Tourism Vocational School. The instruments of data collection were gathered by administrating interview and distributing questionnaire to 28 respondents to get students’ needs. The interview and questionnaire result proved that the students need English learning media which can motivate students to understand listening recount text. The product was validated by two experts; English lecturer and English teacher. The product result was Podcast that contains audio media to be used in mastering the recount text listening. The result of experts’ validation showed that the media was an appropriate media to be used in teaching listening recount text by getting average percentage of 97.5% categorized as excellent. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the types of interaction, the percentage of teacher talk and student talk and the dominant characteristic of interaction which appeared during teaching-learning process in SMP N 2 Babalan in 2016/2017 academic year. This study used descriptive design. The subjects of this study were three classes. One class of the eighth grade and two classes of the nineth grade. The data were analyzed by using Flanders Interaction Analysis Category System (FIACS). The instruments of collecting data were audio and video recording. The analysis showed that all of the ten types of interaction appeared. The percentages of each types of interaction were: (a) accepting feeling: 0.41%; (b) praising and encouraging: 9.97%; (c) accepting students’ ideas: 0.22%; (d) asking question: 26.26%; (e) lecturing: 4.70%; (f) giving direction: 13.25%; (g) criticizing: 2.21%; (h) tudents talk response: 39.35%; (i) student talk initiation: 1.10%; (j) silence and confusion: 1.93%.   Teacher talk percentages were 60.98% in class 8-1, 51.62% in class 9-2 and 61.15% in class 9-5. And the student talk percentages were 37.31% in class 8-1, 47.29% in class 9-2 and 20.09% in class 9-5. The dominant characteristic of interaction was content cross, which means that the teacher focused on giving questions and giving materials. From the results, the researcher concluded that the teacher was dominant in the classroom during the teaching-learning processes.Keywords: Classroom Interaction , Flanders Interaction Analysis Category System (FIACS). Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the distribution of cognitive level of Bloom’s Taxonomy in English Summative Test items for reading comprehension in odd and even semesters of second year students in SMAN 1 in Tebing Syahbandar academic year 2015/2016. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative research for collect, analyze and classify reading questions based on revised of Bloom’s Taxonomy. The data of this study were taken from English Summative Test for eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Tebing Syahbandar. The results of this study are: for odd semester C1 (69.23%), C2 (15.38%), C3 (7.69%), C4 (7.69%), C5 (0%) and C6 (0%); and for even semester C1 (38.89%), C2 (5.56%), C3 (0%), C4 (55.56%), C5 (0%) and C6 (0%). Adapted by Sudjana (2009), these results do not achieve proportion of thinking order skill that the total of C1 and C2 is 30%, C2 and C3 is 40%, C4 and C5 is 30%. It shows that the distribution of cognitive level of Bloom’s Taxonomy in English Summative Test items for reading comprehension in odd and even semesters of second year students in SMAN 1 in Tebing Syahbandar academic year 2015/2016 are not appropriate.Key words: English summative test, reading comprehension questions, revised Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Abstract

This was a research and development (R&D) study which aimed to evaluate the English summative test items based on revised Bloom’s taxonomy for grade VIII. This study focused on the developing the English summative test items according to the cognitive level of revised Bloom’s taxonomy for grade VIII at SMP Negeri 3 Tebing Tinggi. The data consist of the existing English summative test items which were directly collected from the English teacher due to analyze the proportion of cognitive level according to revised Bloom’s taxonomy. Based on the data analysis, the existing English summative test had not fulfilled the proportion of cognitive level according to revised Bloom’s taxonomy regulated by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The inappropriate English summative test items were then developed according to the proportion demand and suitability to the syllabus and indicators. The results of the study are 30 developed English summative test items which had been validated by the experts and tested to 20 students due to get the reliability scores. Keywords: English summative test, revised Bloom’s taxonomy, R&D research

Abstract

The objectives of this study were (1) to analyze feasibility of content (2) to analyze feasibility of presentation in the English Textbook “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK Kelas X” according to Curriculum 2013. This study used descriptive qualitative. The data collected for this study were from “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK Kelas X” published by Yrama Widya with the writer Otong Setiawan Dj. There are 12 chapters within this textbook and the writer determined to study 6 out of 12 chapters as the sample for the whole book. The results of this study were (1) the feasibility of content in English Textbook “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK Kelas X” according to Curriculum 2013 with percentage 89.58%. (2) the feasibility of Presentation in English Textbook “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK Kelas X” according to Curriculum 2013 with percentage 88.88%. (3) KD and KI in this textbook also according to Curriculum 2013.Therefore, it can be concluded that English Textbook “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA-MA/SMK Kelas X” published by Yrama Widya, in terms of feasibility of content and feasibility of presentation, was good to be used in the first grade of senior high school using curriculum 2013.Keywords: Textbook, Curriculum 2013, Assessment rubric based on BSNP
