Abstract

This study was conducted through three phases, namely experimental preparation, design trials, and activity analysis. The learning design designed in this study aims to develop students' skills in measuring. The design involves traditional game namely penteng. Subject of this study is third grade students. The result of this study shows that students’ skill in measuring develop through their activities in using nonstandard measurement tool when they are playing penteng. When playing penteng, students measure the distance of the short wood fall to the hole where the wooden throw using long wood and short wood. The experience they get directly when taking measurements using short wood and jangers delivers them in stating distance using standard units. This is indicated by the process of counting jumps by students when asked to declare the results of non-standard calculation into the standard unit. Through these activities students' skills in measurement can develop

Abstract

Teachers always use a context on explaining the concepts, when they use RME. RME could become an alternative on mathematics instruction, where the instruction usually is held by expository method. This study is aim to know the effect of RME to the students’ report. By comparing students’ report, between they were teach using RME and expository, the result shows that using RME is better than expository. Although there is no significant difference on the students’ report, the circumstances of instruction is different. By using RME, students were involved in many activities and they became fun. This supported the students’ report became better than they were teach using expository method.

Abstract

This research is a Classroom Action Research which aims to improve students' learning outcomes through the method application of paired card game for students for grade 3 in mathematics subject academic year 2012/2014. The data collecting method includes observation, interview, test and document. Data collected in the form of (1) the observation results of teacher activity during the implementation of learning and respond and student learning outcomes; (2) student implementingthe learning process, the interview was also conducted to the students to obtain information of learning activity and outcomes. This study was conducted in 2 cycles; each cycle was consisting of 4 stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Learning by applying paired card game method makes students feel happy and motivated to learn math, so mathwas not a scary and boring subject anymore. Based on the observation of teachers,it can be seen that teacher activity in learning cycle 1 obtained a score of 78.4% (good), while the results of teacher activity observation on learning cycle 2 obtained a score of 93.8% (excellent). The final test results obtained in the study was also showed an increase in student learning outcomes, in cycle 1 there are 4 children who have not reached the KKM target, whereas in cycle 2 the result was satisfying that all 3rd graders have reached the KKM target.

Abstract

As a vulnerable group, elementary school students need to be directly involved in disaster risk reduction through learning at school. Local wisdom in disaster risk reduction, bridging the gap with modern risk reduction. This study aims to produce a model in science learning by using local wisdom learning resources for disaster risk reduction. The data analysed were articles focused on local wisdom in Indonesia using qualitative meta-analysis. The data source is articles published in indexed journals by Scopus, with the criteria of selected articles (research or review) related to local wisdom in disaster risk reduction in Indonesia. The research findings are that (1) indigenous communities have original cognitive thinking skills for responding to disasters and (2) a conceptual science learning model based on indigenous knowledge to train students' responses to disasters. Disaster risk reduction by directly involving vulnerable groups (elementary school students) provides benefits: students will learn about disasters, understand actions before a disaster occurs, understand the process of saving themselves when a disaster occurs, and be directly involved in emergency response.

Abstract

An understanding of natural disasters that may occur in the environment around students is expected to facilitate their scientific reasoning by enabling them to explain natural phenomena using knowledge. This study aims to test the effectiveness of Science Student Worksheets on natural disasters in improving scientific reasoning skills and environmental sensitivity among fifth-grade Elementary School students. The research method used is the 4D Research & Development model. The results of the study show that the developed product is valid, effective, and practical in improving scientific reasoning skills and environmental sensitivity. The digital platform is an effective solution for 21st-century learning that focuses on enhancing high-level thinking skills and utilising digital learning technology.
