Abstract

Abstract: A prototype of homemade furnace was built and the highest temperature it can reach during the trial process is approximately 400OC. Beside liquid metal, the furnace also produced exhaust gas as a side product. The exhaust gas is still hot. Hot gas can be used to improve the furnace’s temperature based on blast furnace method. To apply this method, the furnace should be companied with cowper. In designing cowper, several parameters should be notice. The parameters are hot gas temperature, air flow direction, and its movement ability with the furnace. Hot gas temperature will determine the number of heat absorber layers. The direction of the air flow will determine the cowper construction. Movement ability is associated with space. The design is made based on VDI 2221. The cowper design concept is cowper to store hot gas made of ramming refectories with its outer diameter similar to oil tank and the movement mechanism only applied for migration.

Abstract

Pengetahuan masyarakat yang rendah tentang material menyebabkan masyarakat mudah dibuat bingung atau dibohongi dengan informasi yang disampaikan oleh media massa atau laman internet. Terlebih lagi, saat ini semua orang yang memiliki gawai komunikasi dapat mengunggah informasi dan/atau berita apapun pada media sosial atau laman internet. Sehingga pengetahuan dan kompetensi penulis menjadi sesuatu yang bias. Kondisi ini menyebabkan masyarakat menerima informasi yang kurang atau bahkan tidak benar dan kemudian diterima menjadi sesuatu yang benar. Keadaan seperti ini dapat meyebabkan terjadinya kerugian atau bahkan sampai membahayakan masyarakat. Kegiatan Pelatihan Pengenalan dan Karakterisasi Material ini diselenggarakan untuk membantu masyarakat, khususnya masyarakat industri untuk lebih paham tentang material, sehingga dapat memilah informasi yang diterimanya dan menerapkan informasi tersebut secara benar. Penggunaan dan penerapan informasi yang benar tersebut diharapkan dapat mencegah msyarakat dalam merugikan diri sendiri maupun lingkungannya. Pelaksanaan ini mendapat sambutan baik dari masyarakat, terlihat dari jumlah peserta yang mendaftarkan diri, lalu kemudian hadir, maupun dengan melihat jumlah peserta yang tidak mendaftarkan diri tetapi kemudian hadir saat kegiatan berlangsung. Peserta memberikan penilaian baik kepada para narasumber dan berharap agar kegiatan ini dapat lebih sering dilakukan.

Abstract

People's low knowledge of materials means that they can easily be confused or deceived by information about materials on social media or internet pages. Moreover, any information and/or news can be uploaded on social media or internet pages. So, the knowledge and competence of the author become biased and allow the public to receive information that is less or even incorrect which is then accepted as true. This can result in losses or even endanger the community. This Material Introduction and Characterization Training activity was held to help the community, especially the industrial community, to understand more about materials so that they can sort out the information they receive and apply the information correctly so that it will not harm themselves or their environment. This activity was well received by the community as seen from the number of participants who registered and then attended, as well as by looking at the number of participants who did not register but attended the activity. Participants gave good evaluations to the resource persons and hoped that this activity could be carried out more often.
