Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the physical, chemical and biological properties of terra preta with biochar pyrolysis combustion systems. The addition of mycorrhizal fungi to enrich microorganism, which serves to increase nutrient absorption, increase plant resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses, maintain growth and production stability. Making terra preta is done with used wood and animal bones are burned with a pyrolysis system for 7 hours at a temperature of 500oC then activated with H2SO4 2M and mixing empty bunch, livestock urine, goat manure, mycorrhizal fungus, water used for washing rice and allowed to stand for 1 month in a state of condition covered, then mixed with mineral soil and allowed to stand for one month, then observed the physical, chemical and biological characteristics. The result of terra preta soil analysis, ie the texture of sand soil 13%, 50% dust, clay 37%, pH 7.2, Organic C 5.71%, N total 0.43%, C/N ratio of 13, P is available 634 ppm, CEC 23.45 cmolc/kg, and 150 spore/gr mycorrhiza content.

Abstract

The existence of weeds in oil palm plantations is considered very detrimental and even has no benefit at all. However, it turns out that there are several weeds in oil palm plantations that can be used, one of which is a medicinal plant. Some of these weed species are considered by the plantation community as an alternative to making traditional medicines considering that the oil palm plantation areas are very far from pharmaceutical centers. This research was conducted at the oil palm plantation of PT Unggul Widya Teknolgi Lestari, Pasangkayu Regency, West Sulawesi, in March-June 2020. The purpose of this study was to determine the types and methods of processing weeds as traditional medicines by the oil palm plantation community. The methods used in this research are field observations, in-depth interviews with key informants from community elements and oil palm plantation managers. Qualitative descriptive analysis is used to explain the results of surveys and interviews systematically which is strengthened by literature study. Based on the results of the study showed that in the oil palm plantation PT Unggul Widya Teknologi Lestari, there are 10 weed plants which are commonly used by plantation communities as traditional medicine. The processing method includes the boiling method and using it directly. The use of weed plants as traditional medicine also contributes to efforts to control weeds in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner in oil palm plantations.

Abstract

The problem that arises in plant cultivation is the limitation of top soil as a planting medium, one of the substitutes for top soil is litter. Litter comes from weathering of male flowers, female flowers and sheath weathering which have decayed and become organic matter. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of armpit litter growing media on oil palm trunks on the growth of Pueraria javanica, determine good media, and determine the nutrient content of armpit litter on oil palm trunks. The research was carried out in the experimental garden 1 Politeknik Kelapa Sawit Citra Widya Edukasi from February to April 2018. This study used a Complete Randomized Block Design (RAKL), with treatment A1: 100% Top Soil, A2: Litter 100%, A3: Subsoil 80% + litter 20%, A4: Subsoil 60% + litter 40%, A5: Subsoil 40% + litter 60%. One treatment had three replications, and each replication consisted of three samples. If there is a real effect, it is tested further with the DMRT test (Duncan Multi Range Test) 5%. The parameters of observation were plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, wet weight and dry weight. Based on the results of the study, giving litter of oil palm midrib armpit significantly affected the growth of Pueraria javanica, such as plant height from age 1 and 2 BST (Month after Planting) and stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area at 2 BST (Month after Planting), A5 treatment has a good effect on plant height and leaf area, while A4 treatment is the best medium for stem diameter and number of leaves. Litter content is N 2.09%, P 0.08%, and K 0.179%.
