Abstract

Tooth mobility is often experienced by patients, especially patients with periodontal disease. Periodontal diseasecauses the loss of tooth support so the tooth becomes mobile. The signs of periodontal disease or periodontitisinclude occasional bleeding gums, bluish red gums, shiny, and tooth mobility. Splint is used to unite one or moreteeth to form a single entity so that it can reduce tooth mobility. There are some splints used as supporting therapyof periodontal disease patients to stabilize the tooth before further actions are carried out.

Abstract

Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is the generation of platelet concentrates containing growth factors, which play a role in theprocess of healing and tissue regeneration. This study aimed to compare the effects of using of PRF with subepithelialconnective tissue graft (SCTG)as a treatment to gingival recession Miller Class I-II. Nine patients with bilateralgingival recession, as the subjects have two recessions. One side was treated with coronally advanced flap(CAF)+SCTG, while the other side was treated with CAF+PRF. The length of the recession is measured andcalculated as the percentage of root closure before and after surgery (10 and 30 days). The results showed that therewere significant differences in the average length of recessions between PRF and SCTG before and after the action onday 10 and day 30 (p<0.05). Closing percentage of gingival recession 10 days after SCTG treatment was 7 (77.8%)had experienced completely closing; while the PRF, only 6 (66.7%); p>0.05. Whereas on day 30, after SCTGtreatment, all subjects had undergone a recession closing perfectly, while the PRF group only 66,7% recession thathave closing completely (p=0.05). It was concluded that the CAF+SCTG provide maximum results compared withCAF+PRF in treating gingival recession Miller Class I–II.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the correlation of blood quality with transforming growth factor (TGF-ß1) of platelet richplasma (PRP) which was used for bone and periodontal tissue regeneration. Thirty nine subjects participated in thisstudy. Data of age, gender, eritrocyt, leucocyt, hemoglobin, thrombocyt, and TGF-ß1 concentration were used toanalyze the correlation using Spearman correlation test. This study found leucocyt, eritrocyt, hemoglobin, thrombocytconcentration mean was 8.19 g/dl, 5.31 g/dl, 14.48 g/dl, 326.32 g/dl, respectively. The TGF-ß1 concentration meanacquired from PRP was 31994.27 pg/ml. Based on Spearman correlation test, significant correlation was onlyobserved in eritrocyt concentration variable with p value 0.023 (p<0.05) and it was higher in male than in female. It was concluded that TGF-ß1 concentration in PRP from normal subject was 31994.27 pg/ml. Based on leucocyt, eritrocyt, hemoglobin, and thrombocyt test to TGF-ß1, only eritrocyt showed the significant relationship. This findingalso showed the linear correlation between the amoung of eritrocyt in blood with TGF-ß1 as the increased eritrocytvalue was followed by the excalated TGF-ß1 value.

Abstract

Periodontal disease causes damage to the structure of periodontal tissue characterized by the presence of tooth mobility. Splint is one of the therapies to support the healing of periodontal tissue that aims to provide stability so that occlusal pressure can be evenly distributed to other teeth. The design of dentures that can act as splint is important to maintain the stability of the teeth that mobile while restoring the chewing function. Some designs of denture that can be used as periodontal splint, namely external removable permanent splint and internal fixed permanent splint.

Abstract

Alveolar ridges usually undergo a change in shape and height due to tooth loss. This can make it difficult to install dentures or implants. Preservation of the socket post tooth extraction can maintain the height and width of the alveolar ridge. Preservation of ridges and socketscan be done with atraumatic extraction, the use of bone graft or membrane, and a combination of bone graft and membrane.
