Abstract

Numbers of researchers have developed interaction techniques in Augmented Reality (AR) application. Some of them proposed new technique for user interaction with different types of interfaces which could bring great promise for intuitive user interaction with 3D data naturally. This paper will explore the 3D object manipulation performs in single-point interaction (S-PI) technique in AR environment. The new interaction algorithm, S-PI technique, is point-based intersection designed to detect the interaction’s behaviors such as translate, rotate, clone and for intuitive 3D object handling. The S-PI technique is proposed with marker-based tracking in order to improve the trade-off between the accuracy and speed in manipulating 3D object in real-time. The method is robust required to ensure both elements of real and virtual can be combined relative to the user’s viewpoints and reduce system lag. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2797

Abstract

Existing interaction techniques within handheld augmented reality (AR) have frequently used touchscreen input (pure two-dimensional (2D) pointing and clicking) from the handheld device's display for target selection on the virtual object. However, performing accurate target selection on a distant target object becomes challenging as the target object will appear smaller when the distance increases. Aside from that, the difficulty increases in performing target selection when another virtual object obscures the distant virtual object. Therefore, this study aims to present a target selection method to perform the target selection. We enable the raycasting technique with real hand gesture for the target selection method on the occluded and distant object in handheld AR. The leap motion device is mounted at the back of the handheld device to track the real hand gesture. The markerless tracking technology of simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) is implemented to enable the AR environment. Based on the results, the aim of this study was achieved.

Abstract

Virtual conferences have successfully solved the challenges of traditional face-to-face conferences that can’t be carried out smoothly due to issues such as venue, transportation, and the pandemic. More importantly, as virtual conferences continue to develop and mature, they provide a virtual environment for multi-person collaboration, which is impossible to achieve with traditional face-to-face conferences. This technological innovation is expected to bring significant cost savings to various fields such as medical care, education, and industry. This paper proposes a unity-based multi-party collaborative virtual conference model. The model takes automobiles as the theme, which can realize the design and modification of the appearance of the automobiles by multiple people in the same space, and also supports operations such as the disassembly and installation of the automobile engine. This model is designed to deepen our understanding of multi-person collaboration capabilities in virtual conferences, a feature that is expected to significantly improve teamwork efficiency.
