Abstract

At the beginning of 2020, the world was experiencing the Covid-19 pandemic, and Indonesia was no exception. The occurrence of this affects the learning system in Indonesia, the learning system that was originally face-to-face was forced to online form, in this case the teachers are required to provide a creative, efficient and optimal learning system for students. So the purpose of this study is to find out the difference in the average learning result of elementary school students during the pandemic. The method used in this study is quantitative with a posttest-only control group design. The population in this study were grade 4 elementary school students in Majalengka district, Indonesia. There were 64 samples and was taken by purposive sampling. The results of this study are that there are differences in the average student learning results where students who study with the hybrid learning system are higher than the face-to-face learning system. The hybrid learning system is very reliable in the 4.0 era as well as learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, for the record, it is necessary to look at the facilities and infrastructure considering that this system relies on technology, it is necessary to understand and be able to control the learning media for both teachers and students so that learning outcomes can be optimal and minimize the occurrence of obstacles. The present study revealed the implementation of 21st century learning.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to systematically examine the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in supporting students’ mathematical problem-solving processes at the secondary school level. It addresses the current gap in the literature by providing a focused synthesis of how ICT is utilized in mathematics education to enhance students’ problem-solving abilities. Methodology: A Systematic Literature Review was conducted following the PRISMA protocol. Articles were sourced from reputable databases, such as Scopus, Taylor & Francis Online (Tandfonline), and Education Resources Information Center (ERIC). Through a rigorous selection process based on relevance and quality criteria, 25 peer-reviewed articles published within the past ten years were analyzed and synthesized. Main Findings: The review reveals that ICT is widely employed to improve the quality of instruction and students’ problem-solving skills in mathematics. ICT supports learning across various topics such as geometry, calculus, and algebra, mainly through visualization tools and interactive simulations. Furthermore, ICT serves multiple roles: as a medium for ICT-assisted instruction, a complement to instructional materials, a platform for online learning, an assessment tool and a resource for student-directed learning, and as an adaptive and diagnostic learning systems. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study contributes a focused and systematic analysis of how ICT specifically enhances mathematical problem-solving at the secondary level, a perspective that has been underrepresented in existing reviews. By identifying the specific functions and impacts of ICT in this context, the study lays the groundwork for future research and development of ICT-based pedagogical strategies in mathematics education.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study examined the effectiveness of GASING (Gampang, Asyik, dan Menyenangkan) method training on elementary school teachers’ content knowledge of basic arithmetic operations, namely addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, in West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Methodology: A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. Fifty-five elementary school teachers in West Manggarai Regency participated in a 10-day (80-hour) GASING training program. A content knowledge test (Cronbach's alpha = 0.89) was administered as the measurement instrument. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, Hake’s normalized gain (N-gain), and Cohen's d, processed with SPSS version 26. Main Findings: Teachers’ content knowledge improved substantially following training, with mean scores rising from 31.00 to 72.09 out of 100, more than double the pretest level. This gain was statistically significant (Wilcoxon Z = −6.441, p < 0.001) and represented a very large practical effect (Cohen's d = 2.94), indicating the improvement was not only reliable but also substantively meaningful. Normalized gain analysis (N-gain = 0.59, medium category) showed that 96.4% of teachers achieved moderate-to-high learning gains, suggesting the training was effective across nearly the entire cohort rather than only for a subset of participants. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study extends the existing GASING literature, unlike prior studies that centered on student learning outcomes or general teacher motivation, this study contributes targeted evidence on teacher professional development in basic arithmetic instruction, offering a replicable, low-resource training model applicable to similarly under-resourced regions in eastern Indonesia.
