Abstract

One type of metabolic disease that is always experiencing an increase in sufferers every year in countries around the world is diabetes mellitus. Sargassum hystrix marine algae are the types that are found and quite abundant in Indonesia. This study aims to prove the hypoglycemic effect of Sargassum hystrix infusion in male white mice. The study was conducted using the oral glucose test method in the positive control group (I) given glibenclamide 0.52mg / 20gramBB; group (II) is a negative control given CMC Na 0.5%; group (III) infusion of Sargassum hystrix with a concentration of 2.5% with a volume of 0.2 mL / 20gram BW; group (IV) infusion of Sargassum hystrix with a concentration of 5% by volume of 0.2 mL / 20gram BW. The results were analyzed using One Way Anova which was then followed by Duncan's test. The results showed that Sargassum hystrix infusion had an antihyperglycemic effect (p <0.05) when compared with negative controls. Sargassum hystrix 5% infusion is the best dose with the antihyperglycemic effect statistically the same as the antihyperglycemic effect of glibenclamide.

Abstract

This study is a test of the anti-bacterial activity of natural disinfectant solution of betel leaf infusion (Piper Betle L.) against staphylococcus aureus. This study aims to determine the anti-bacterial activity of betel leaf infusion disinfectant solution against staphylococcus aureus. This study used the disc diffusion method by looking at the inhibition area in the presence of a clear area around the disc. The betel leaf infusion concentration used was 60% w/v and 90% w/v. The analysis used is descriptive analysis. The results of this study indicate that betel leaf infusion with a concentration of 90% w/v is better than betel leaf infusion with a concentration of 60% w/v. Betel leaf infusion concentrated 90% w/v had an inhibition area of 6.66 mm and betel leaf infusion concentrated 60% w/v had an inhibition area of 2.13 mm. The 90% w/v concentration of betel leaf infusion is included in the moderate anti-bacterial category and 60% w/v concentrated betel leaf infusion is in the weak category. Betel leaf infusion can be used as a natural disinfectant and is safe to use.
