Abstract

This study aims to examine the contribution of academic supervision to improving teacher competence through a Systematic Literature Review approach to 15 articles published in the last decade. The focus of the study includes the effectiveness of supervision, implementation techniques, teacher competence results, and supporting and inhibiting factors. The findings show that structured and ongoing academic supervision improves teachers’ pedagogical, professional, and technical competence. Techniques such as classroom observation and technical guidance have proven effective, but their implementation is constrained by time, workload, and low understanding. The novelty of this study lies in the comprehensive mapping across levels of education and the identification of contextual reflective supervision practices. Its contribution is as a basis for formulating collaborative academic supervision strategies based on teachers’ real needs to support the transformation of national education quality.

Abstract

This study aims to examine academic supervision and its impact on teacher performance and the quality of education in madrasah through a Systematic Literature Review approach based on the PRISMA guide. Academic supervision is a crucial component of educational management, especially in supporting teacher professionalism and educational quality. This review analyzes 15 scientific articles published in the last seven years, which discuss the implementation, techniques, and outcomes of academic supervision in madrasah settings. The findings reveal that academic supervision significantly contributes to improving pedagogical competence, discipline, responsibility, and the use of educational technology among teachers. However, the implementation of supervision also faces challenges such as inadequate supervisory skills among madrasah principals, lack of training, and weak organizational collaboration culture. This study provides a scientific mapping of academic supervision practices and offers recommendations to strengthen the capacity of madrasah principals in carrying out effective and sustainable supervision.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effective supervision approaches of school principals in improving teacher professionalism through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. Teacher professionalism is a crucial factor in improving the quality of education, where the principal acts as an academic supervisor. A total of 15 relevant scientific articles from 2020 to 2025 were systematically analyzed to identify supervision strategies, implementation challenges, and their impact on teacher quality. The study results indicate that approaches such as clinical, collegial, Total Quality Management (TQM)-based supervision, as well as democratic and participatory approaches are effective in improving teachers' pedagogical, professional, social, and personal competencies. However, several obstacles were also identified, such as minimal follow-up, the dominance of administrative approaches, and a lack of innovation in supervision implementation. The novelty of this study lies in the synthesis of supervision models that are contextual and relevant to the challenges of education in the digital era. This study provides theoretical and practical contributions by offering recommendations for applicable, sustainable, and collaborative supervision strategies to support teacher professional development in various educational units.
