Abstract

Abstack: Implementation of Urban Farming Program as Strategy of Urban Food Security Development (Study at Kelurahan Made, Kecamatan Sambikerep, Kota Surabaya) Urban Farming program is one step that has been taken to improve food security for the poor community. In regarding to the availability of land and the increased demand for food due to population growth, one reasonable step to take is using the narrow land, such as backyard and rice field, for productive farming activities. The purpose of study is to describe and  analyse implementation of Urban Farming program. Also, to provide contribution in improving food security in household. Research type is descriptive with qualitative approach. The focus of research is given upon the research boundary suggested by David C. Korten, Wahab and Edward III. A main instrument of data collection technique is data triangulation. Data are then analyzed with Miles, Huberman and Saldana’s data analysis model. Result of research indicates that the implementation of Urban Farming Program has been successful. The presence of Urban Farming Program can improve food security of the poor community, and it is indicated by the improvement of food stock and the relief for food expense. The program still needs improvement, especially related to stakeholder participation. Dengan ketersediaan lahan dan semakin meningkatnya kebutuhan pangan karena peningkatan jumlah penduduk, salah satu langkah yang ditempuh adalah dengan memanfaatkan lahan sempit seperti pekarangan dan lahan sawah yang tersisa untuk kegiatan pertanian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis implementasi program Urban Farming, kontribusinya dalam meningkatkan ketahanan pangan di tingkat rumah tangga. Penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Fokus diperoleh dari pendapat Korten, Wahab, dan Edward III, dengan teknik pengumpulan data dengan triangulasi. Sedangkan data yang diperoleh dianalisa menggunakan model analisa data Miles, Huberman dan Saldana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan implementasi program cukup berhasil. Namun, perbaikan ketahanan pangan dapat diamati dari perbaikan ketersediaan dan pengurangan beban untuk pengeluaran pangan ditingkat rumah tangga miskin. Sedangkan masih dibutuhkan perbaikan program, terutama pada keterlibatan stakeholder.

Abstract

This study addresses a critical gap in business education where traditional methods often fail to translate theoretical knowledge of sustainability into a deep, action-oriented commitment to environmental stewardship. The WEF Report on Jobs of the Future 2025 highlights the urgent need for a workforce equipped with green skills, yet business students frequently lack the practical tools to integrate environmental responsibility into their professional lives. This paper explores the Design Thinking framework as an innovative pedagogical tool to bridge this divide. Employing a qualitative action research design, we engaged a cohort of business students in a hands-on Design Thinking intervention. Data collected through observations, participant feedback, and prototype ideas generated by participants. The findings demonstrate that Design Thinking(DT) is a highly effective methodology for cultivating a tangible sense of stewardship and developing the critical skills demanded by the future economy. This empathy-driven process leads to changes in students' perceptions and attitudes, directly fostering the core competencies needed for green skills. The structured process empowered students to move from passive learning to proactive problem-solving, resulting in the development of creative and actionable prototypes for real-world environmental challenges. This research offers a practical model for business schools seeking to integrate sustainability more meaningfully into their curricula. While the study's scope is limited to a single group, it provides a strong foundation for future research into experiential learning methods that cultivate responsible business leaders.

Abstract

Introduction; Environmental issues in coastal areas, such as the reduction of mangrove forest area in Pesisir Timur Surabaya (PAMURBAYA), are driven by urban development and pose threats to human activities. This environmental challenge has sparked interest in entrepreneurship as a means to develop innovative and sustainable solutions. Increasing youth participation is seen as essential to balancing economic, social, and environmental benefits. Method; This study explores the effectiveness of Design Thinking in fostering a green entrepreneurial attitude among youth. The research focused specifically on business administration students participating in Design Thinking activities held at the mangrove ecotourism site in Gunung Anyar, Surabaya. A thematic analysis was conducted on the findings alongside a review of current literature to gain a deeper understanding. Results; The study found that the Design Thinking process successfully encouraged students to shift their mindset, enabling them to identify environmental problems as business opportunities. Students generated innovative, sustainability-oriented ideas, reflecting a change in attitude toward green entrepreneurship. Conclusion; This study contributes theoretically by demonstrating that Design Thinking can act as a catalyst for green entrepreneurship practices. Practically, it suggests integrating Design Thinking workshops into entrepreneurship courses to stimulate youth-led green business initiatives.
