Abstract

Every student certainly demonstrates different achievement in her/his Chinese language learning process because every student has her/his own individual way to resolve their problems in learning. In learning process, student’s individual differences exist. These differences lead to different learning speed and learning style of the student. The purpose of this study was to investigate the high achievement students’ learning styles. This study was based on Reid’s learning styles theory and also uses Reid’s Perceptual Learning Style Preference Questionnaire (PLSPQ) to investigate student’s learning styles. The main finding of this study is that student’s learning style preference is group style. According to student learning style preferences results, students prefer to learn together with others or in group and learn in a more interactive way.

Abstract

This study used comparative analysis to understand the similarities and differences of basic structure adverbial word order between Chinese language and Bahasa Indonesia. This study also analyzed Indonesian student’s common errors in learning adverbial word order, and the result found that student’s common error are adverbial clause of time, place, and preposition as adverbial word order. This research suggests teachers must emphasize the differences in the basic word order between Chinese language and bahasa Indonesia language first, then teach the differences of adverbial word. Teachers shoud encourage students to practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, so they can overcome the differences between Chineseand Indonesia language, and reduce the errors in learning.

Abstract

The aims of this research were to investigate the Chinese language learning strategy used among students of Chinese Department class of 2021 Binus University, the relationship between gender and language learning strategy use, the relationship between language learning strategy and learning achievement, and also the language learning strategy used by students with high learning achievement in the subject of Grammar. This research used Oxford’s language learning strategy questionnaire that was “Strategy for Language Learning (SILL)” to investigate the students’ language learning strategy. This research finds out that the language learning strategy employed by the most students are metacognitive strategy and strategy to be used by high learning achievement students in grammar subject are also metacognitive strategy. It also finds out that female students use more language learning strategies compared to male students, although the difference is not too significant. Results of Pearson Correlation’s test indicate no significant relationship between the students’ language learning strategy and learning achievement. This research shows that there is no dominant language learning strategy used by Chinese Literature students.

Abstract

In Indonesia, in addition to english mandarin also become a very common thing. Many companies employ one of the conditions of staff must be fluent in speaking Chinese, reading and writing Chinese characters. Therefore, the majority of schools in Indonesia have set up Chinese language courses, in order to give Chinese language’s basic foundation to their students. In Pluit, courses of Chinese language schools are mostly private, three-language schools and international schools (not including international schools in the U.S. system). Through the six factors of curriculum (Teachers, facilities, scores, textbooks, curricula, and social participation ), the writer wants to analyze Permai Plus school curriculum Chinese course situation.

Abstract

In relation to teaching and learning language, speaking always becomes an important skill. Speaking lesson has been designed as the main course in foreign language teaching and teachers have to master the teaching method in class, and he must be able to design a standard speaking test to assess student capability in speaking. In this article, the writer uses the theory of standard speaking test design, and combines it with the result of interview with three speaking teachers of the Chinese Department, BINUS University. This is to analyze the speaking test design and content. The result of the analysis shows that the important parts in speaking test design are reading, questions and answers, and the narration. It is used to assess student’s expression, communication, and the level of phonetic abilities For the test content, the three teachers think  that the material must be studied before and it is also possible to use small part from other materials outside the textbook.
