Abstract

This article describes the sayyid community in Cikoang, South Sulawesi that for about three centuries enjoyed a high status in the society. Given their religious status the sayyid not only eclipse the commoners in term of religion but also in other realm that was in the political arena. The sayyids are said to have dominated the rulers of Cikoang-Laikang “kingdom” since the mix marriage of sayyids and the noble women of the “kingdom” until the modern era. The description is developed under a theoretical framework named the stranger kingship.

Abstract

In the daily life of the Indonesian people, a penghulu plays a role in accordance with the way the word is understood by the community in which he lives. In West Sumatra, a penghulu is the head of the nagari. In Riau, he has a status equal to that of a head of a village. In Java, he has an authority in all administrative matters of religion. This paper discusses the meaning of penghulu as depicted in old manuscripts written by the natives. Based on a research on these native manuscripts, it can be concluded that a penghulu plays the roles of both a bureaucrat and a Muslim leader.

Abstract

The Sixth Congress of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) 1936 in Banjarmasin decided that the region of Dutch East Indies is dar ul Islam. This decision according to Abdurahman Wahid is the ideological basis for NU in terms of religion-state relations. This article explores the extent to which ideology is implemented in NU fighting after Indonesia's independence until 1955. The NU  fighting in the context of religion-state relations showed a genuin form. Three of the most important theme in this period that take NU attention were  theme about the homeland, the basis of the state and the of authority president. all theme that seems to NU always bases itself on religious views. Religiousity is always used to measure, assess and participation to  the state  Keywords: Darul Islam, Fatwa bughot, Pancasila, Waliyul Amri Dhoruri bis-Saukah.
