Abstract

ABSTRACTSurgical site infection (SSI) is an infection caused by pathogenic microorganism that contaminate the surgical wound at the time of surgery or after surgery. SSI is the kind of healthcare-association infection or nosocomial infections (NI). This descriptive retrospective study explained the overview surgical site infection of post - clean surgical patients at Arifin Achmad General Hospital of Riau Province October to December 2013 period. The source of data was taken from medical records of clean surgical patient at Arifin Achmad General Hospital of Riau Province. In this study, a total of 192 patients were included into the clean surgical patients. The prevalence of surgical site infection in this study was 6.8 (13 patients). By the age group, the highest percentage of patients with post - clean surgical SSI was 41 - 60 years. By the sex, the comparison of patients with post – clean surgical SSI between men and women was 1.2 : 1. By the comorbidities, the highest percentage of patients with post – clean surgical SSI was the patients that have comorbidity non-diabetic. By the duration of surgical, the highest percentage of patients with post – clean surgical SSI was > 2 hours. By the length of stay, the highest percentage of patients with post – clean surgical SSI was > 7 days. By the prophylactic antibiotics administration, the highest percentage of patients with post – clean surgical SSI was clean surgical patients who not given prophylactic antibiotics. By the pre-operative procedure, shaving of the surgical area was pre-operative procedure that had highest percentage in patients with post – clean surgical SSI.Keywords: surgical site infection, clean surgical, patient overview.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBreast cancer is a malignancy in breast tissue when cells grow abnormallyuncontrolled and invade to other parts of the body. Some biomarkers that already recognizedin breast cancer are Estrogen Receptor (ER), Progesterone Receptor (PR), HumanEpidermal Growth Factor Receptor-2 (HER-2), Ki-67 Proliferation Index and Cytokeratin(CK5). Ki-67 Proliferation index examination can be used to predict recurrence and clinicaloutcome of breast malignancy, Ki-67 also may helpful to determine response ofchemotherapy. This study aims to present the profile of Ki-67 examination on breast cancerpatients at Arifin Achmad General Hospital in 2010-2015. This study using retrospectivecross-sectional and descriptive observational method. The population of this study are allpatients diagnosed with breast cancer based on histopathology examination with Ki-67proliferation index at Arifin Achmad General Hospital’s histopathology laboratory in 2010-2015. Six years breast cancer data were analysed, the result of the study are almost allhistological type of breast cancer is Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC) with 350 cases(92,8%) and most of them are <50 years old, the most frequent histological grade is grade IIwith 203 cases (53,8%) and Luminal B as the most frequent molecular type of breast cancerwith 159 cases (42,1%), most of them are categorized as high expression of Ki-67 index with325 cases (86,2%).Keywords: breast cancer, Ki-67 proliferation index, invasive ductal carcinoma,Ki-67 high expression.

Abstract

Introduction: Premenopausal breast cancer (PBC) is often more aggressive than postmenopausal cases, with prolactin playing a key role in tumor development. This study examines the relationship between serum prolactin levels, prolactin receptor (PRLR) expression, and clinicopathological features in PBC patients. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from 2021 - 2022 at multiple hospitals in Pekanbaru, Indonesia. Thirty-five PBC patients and 35 healthy controls were included. Serum prolactin levels were measured using ELISA, and PRLR expression was assessed via IHC. Statistical analysis was performed using independent t-tests and correlation analysis (p < 0.05). Results: PBC patients had higher prolactin levels (51.96±80.40 ng/mL) than controls (20.83±15.74 ng/mL, p = 0.031). PRLR expression was detected in over 90% of tumors, with a significant correlation between prolactin levels and cancer stage (p = 0.035). Discussion: These findings suggest prolactin contributes to PBC progression, with higher levels linked to advanced stages, possibly through JAK2/STAT5 signaling. Conclusion: Serum prolactin levels and PRLR expression are associated with cancer stage, supporting their potential as biomarkers for early detection and disease progression. Further studies are needed for validation.
