Abstract

This community empowerment program is a community service program that involves students to make positive contributions, creatingsynergy between universities, students, and the community in sustainable change. Students play an active role in designing andimplementing activities that empower the community and improve their quality of life, as an implementation of the spirit of service in higher education in Indonesia. The Berkah Box Mosque in North Balikpapan is a spiritual and social center that is committed to improving the quality of life of local residents through humanitarian programs. In this context, the students of the Berkah Box Mosque become human resources who are empowered to support the goals of the foundation and programs. One of the main issues is the lack of knowledge of technology and its use as an effective promotional media for branding the foundation. Effectivepromotional media is expected to increase support from donors, who are the foundation's financial source in addition to functioning asa branding tool and providing information related to the development of the foundation, the abilities of students, and other efforts tothe wider community. Through this activity, it can be achieved an increase in the participants' understanding of the various knowledge and use of technology taught in this training, namely the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Canva Application, Capcut, and the Creation of the Berkah Box Mosque Social Website.

Abstract

There are definitely several of pros and cons when relocating the country's capital from Jakarta to IKN. One of them has to do with the food security. As one of the IKN buffer areas, Balikpapan, has experienced issues with food security, particularly with regard to the supply of beef. The amount of imported beef in 2016-2019 shows a prediction that the amount of imported beef will continue to increase drastically yearly while the amount of local beef tends to decrease. The government of Balikpapan predicts that there will be an increase in the migrant population of up to 20.000 people each year due to the IKN, which can lead to an increase in demand for beef. Factors affecting the availability of beef in Balikpapan are local and imported beef availability, consumption, scarcity, and population demographics. This research was conducted using a system simulation approach with the system dynamic method to describe a complex system regarding the availability of beef in Balikpapan. Based on the scenario that has been developed, an effective policy that can be implemented to maintain the availability of beef in Balikpapan is to increase the cattle feed fraction by 15% and increase the arrival rate of imported beef by 10%. However, there is a need for an intervention policy from the government to increase local beef production, which is predicted to decrease, and minimize the amount of imported beef which dominates in fulfilling the beef consumption needs of the people of Balikpapan.

Abstract

Balikpapan City, as one of the supporting cities for the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan, faces significant challenges in meeting the demand for clean water. The increase in population due to migration and infrastructure development following the relocation of the IKN has led to a continuous rise in the demand for clean water. The rate of water loss, or Non-Revenue Water (NRW), is quite high, reaching 25.85%. This situation has resulted in low distribution efficiency and highlights a gap between the available clean water distribution system and the actual needs of the community. As a result, clean water service coverage reached only 80.07% in 2022. This study aims to identify the factors influencing clean water distribution, develop a dynamic system model, and formulate optimal scenarios. The research method used is a dynamic systems approach, which enables comprehensive analysis of the cause-and-effect relationships between variables in the clean water distribution system, as well as simulation of various policy scenarios to find the most effective and sustainable solutions. Simulation results show significant dynamics in clean water distribution. From 2023 to 2035, pipeline length increased from 1.4 million meters to 1.6 million meters, yet clean water consumption decreased to 23.67 million m³ in 2029 and 23.15 million m³ in 2035. Of the three designed scenarios, Scenario 3, which involves a 4.2% annual increase in pipeline repair rates and a 1.47% annual increase in the number of customers, proved to be the most effective. This scenario successfully reduces pipeline leakage rates and significantly improves distribution coverage.

Abstract

Abstract

Urban centers worldwide are grappling with complex waste management challenges, including efficient collection, transportation, processing, and an over-reliance on landfills. A promising approach to mitigate these issues lies in bolstering public participation in waste separation, which could significantly improve recycling efforts. To effectively encourage this practice, it is crucial to understand the underlying factors that motivate community engagement in waste segregation activities. This study utilizes the Theory of Planned Behavior and the Norm Activation Model to identify and analyze determinants influencing individuals' propensity to separate waste in the sampling area of Balikpapan City, Indonesia. Balikpapan, one of the cities in Indonesia, is currently facing several distinct challenges related to waste management. Through the empirical validation of eight hypotheses, it becomes apparent that the presence of market facilitators (H3) and the influence of past behavior (H5) play pivotal roles in shaping the intention to engage in waste separation. The findings suggest that providing accessible, well-maintained market facilities and initiatives designed to enrich the public's waste separation experience are essential strategies. Implementing these strategies could significantly improve waste separation practices within specific urban contexts such as Balikpapan, Indonesia, and other cities facing similar environmental management challenges.

Abstract

The availability of rice is a matter of considerable concern; this is related to food needs in an area, one of which is the City of Balikpapan. The city of Balikpapan is a city that has the potential to experience an increase in population due to increased birth rates and immigration and is supported by the discourse on the isolation of the National Capital. In one year, humans are able to spend 0.1146 tons/year. With an increase in population, it has the potential to increase rice consumption in the City of Balikpapan. Therefore, a rice availability simulation is carried out by considering the availability factors by using a Causal Loop Diagram and calculating factor values by using a Stock and Flow Diagram to see what conditions will be in the future after modeling. From the simulation, two scenarios were obtained to overcome the problem of rice availability in Balikpapan City, which resulted in an increase in the procurement and procurement of rice from Bulog and distributors, and the scenario chosen was scenario 2, namely an increase in rice procurement and distribution.
