Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract: Yetti A. Ka?s fourteen short stories compiled in Suatu Hari Bukan di Hari Minggu collection represent the reality of women who were hurt and disappointed, although they had a free life. Therefore, the problem of this article is formulated as follows: how is the shape of Yetti A. Ka?s depiction on the women and all the injuries they have in the short story collection? Through the perspective of feminism, it can be concluded that the women presented by the author actually feel bound by a patriarchal culture. However, with all the freedom they have, they still choose to be a woman in a patriarchal circle, although with a wound that never ends. Key Words: short story collection, the perspective of feminism, women's injury

Abstract

Riau is a wealthy region where physical development appears everywhere. However, many people are marginalized and neglected by this development. Due to this fact, most Riau Malay people tend to have negative prejudice and not accept the presence of foreign immigrants, including Indonesian Chinese. However, Olyrinson can blend in with the local community through his work, which often raises topics about humanity and his real-life. Using a three-dimensional framework of Fairclough (1989; 1992a; 1992b; 1995a; and 1995b), this study critically explores the various efforts made by Olyrinson in the short story "Jalan Sumur Mati" to defend his existence by changing prejudices. In this case, the author analyzes relevant texts and explores dialectical relationships between literary works and other social practice elements, which will be presented through textual analysis, discourse practice, and social practice.

Abstract

Literature, as a work containing facts and fiction, can obscure the conventions of realities and create new realities so that there are no visible boundaries between the real thing and the unreal thing. Fact and fiction coincide and simulate to form hyperreality. In the short story “Yang Datang dari Negeri Asap (Who Comes from the Smoky Country)” by Hary B. Kori’un, the existence of facts and fiction overlap each other. The author created the country of smoke as a fictitious world due to his contemplation on the consumption culture, which is a phenomenon in people’s lives and relates it to the haze disaster that keeps going to occur every year. The researcher sorts out facts and fiction that are interconnected in the short story to explore the creation of hyperreality using the perspective of Jean Baudrillard. As a result, the researcher found a consumption culture in the community, especially plantation entrepreneurs. The presence of a new world in a short story is a reproduction of the value of a sign or symbol that simulates as if there was a poverty scenario created by globalization through a variety of industrial distribution media to extract all potentials to benefit an established industry. Finally, consumption culture causes all aspects of life to be a commodity object because the needs that arise will always exceed the production of goods.

Abstract

The existence of facts in journalism can be manipulated, while the truth settles in literature. Although both types of writing, namely news texts, which contain facts, and literary texts, which contain fiction, depart from the same reality, the estuary of the truth in it can be different because it is seen from different perspectives and interests. For these various interests, silencing in journalism often occurs. Facts are circumcised, overhauled, and arranged in such a way as to produce new facts. Meanwhile, in literature, facts are packaged using imagination to disguise the truth as if it did not happen. For this reason, using a functional systemic linguistic approach, the authors uncover various linguistic considerations built by Seno Gumira Ajidarma (SGA) in reducing news in Jakarta Jakarta to fulfill certain interests. Then, the writers also dismantled the formation of meaning behind each text in SGA’s “Saksi Mata”, which contained elements of resistance in literature, by using Derrida’s deconstruction. The result of the study shows that the same facts can be stated in a variety of different and subjective ways. In this case, literary work is an effective tool to voice the truth.
