Abstract

This study aims to discuss the relation between language and culture and an overview of language realization in literary works as a manifestation of cultural preservation. The research method used to discuss this topic is descriptive method, which provides an overview of the forms of expression in literary works in the form of traditional ceremonies, pupujian, and pupuh. The results of this study indicate that in the traditional open door ceremony which contains teachings and culture that a husband will always try to sacrifice his body and soul for his beloved wife. Pupujian teaches a person for religious education, prayer, warning, and the history of the prophet. Pupuh teaches character education that humans do not indulge in lust, advice to work hard, education to invite children to be devoted to their parents. The impact of the results of this study is that language can be used as a tool in character education for students or the general public. Therefore, character education can be taught implicitly through works produced by writers.

Abstract

This article is going to be about illocutionary act in memes during covid-19 pandemic. Speech acts consist of locutionary act, illocutionary act, and perlocutionary act. Locutionary act is an act merely to say something. Whilst illocutionary act, the speakers produce a function in saying something. In other words, the speakers have a certain purpose in saying something, namely requesting, offering, ordering, commanding, and so forth. Meanwhile, perlocutionary act is an utterance uttered by the speakers has a certain function and meaning to give certain effects to the hearer, such as convincing, persuading, obstructing, even misleading. Assertives illocutionary act contains a function such as stating, concluding, boasting, and complaining. This discussion’s main focus is on assertive illocutionary act in complaining. The method used in this article is descriptive method. The source was taken from https://9gag.com/gag/axMnXqp. The result obtained consist hopes for Covid-19 to end soon because it has impacted the economic field and others in so many ways. The impact of this article is for everyone to be able to deal with the conditions they’re facing at the moment and to be prepared with the unexpected conditions at the same time. Abstract

This study analyzes the meaning of symbols in Bear Brand Milk Advertising (2021). The author aims to reveal the meaning of the symbols contained in the Bear Brand milk advertisement (2021). This study uses a qualitative method with a semiotic approach to the Roland Barthes model. Data were collected by analyzing sentences and visuals that appeared in Bear Brand's (2021) milk advertisements. There are two types of meaning, namely denotation and connotation contained in the sign of a black creature, a white dragon and a can of milk packaging contained in the Bear Brand (2021) milk advertisement. The sign serves as a bridge to represent the message that will be conveyed in Bear Brand dairy products. Keywords: Denotation, Conotation, signifier, signified

Abstract

This research focuses on the Figurative Language in a novel Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. The purpose of this study is to find the types of figurative language, describe the meaning, and the dominant types of figurative language in the novel Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. This research focuses on the figurative language found in the novel, explaining the words or sentences in the novel which is a type of figurative language. The research method that will be used is a qualitative descriptive method by identifying, classifying, describing, and explaining the meaning of each figure of speech. From the results that the researchers found, the dominant figurative language in the novel is Simile. Keywords: Figurative language, Novel, Semantics
