Abstract

Terminal illness is an illness that cannot be cured or treated adequately which is expected to cause death. Patients with terminal illness can be called terminal patients. The fact that terminal patients are being threatened by death can affect their quality of life. Terminal patients need medical and palliative care. Palliative care that can be provided to patients are psychological services which include spiritual support, including pastoral counseling. Thus, this paper aims to discuss the role of discipleship-based pastoral counseling in helping to solve problems caused by illness faced by terminal patients. Qualitative methods are used in answering the objectives of this study. The approach used was a literature study and phenomenological analysis of one source (AS) who is a counselor from the Yayasan Sahabat Orang Sakit. The results showed that pastoral counseling for terminal patients needs to focus on the area: the patient's regression condition and preparing to face death. In discipleship-based counseling, terminal patients are discipled from stage to stage so that the patient can finally serve fellow terminal patients. That's when the terminal patients can understand that their life can still be a blessing to others, and God has been proven to bring goodness in his life.

Abstract

Transwomen people need to be acknowledged and reached by the church. Transgender people need to be acknowledged and reached by the church. There is a bad stigma attached to them, for instance. Therefore, this paper aims to explain Jesus' counseling practices for Samaritan women and how they relate to transwomen's counseling needs. A qualitative method was used in this study, including literature analysis, narrative analysis of John 1:1-42, and phenomenology of RS sources (motivators of the transwomen prayer group). Based on the literature study and narrative research results, it appears Jesus counseled the Samaritan woman through several stages: acceptance, responding to rejection, recovery, evangelism, and being born again. According to the interview results, transwomen need counseling for acceptance, equal treatment, and religious freedom. Thus, it is concluded that Jesus' counseling praxis for Samaritan women in John 4:1-42 can be applied to transgender women. The counseling stages carried out by Jesus in the narrative can help transgender people receive acceptance, equality, and freedom of worship.

Abstract

Since the beginning of the Pentecostal movement, the doctrine of tongues has been considered the most basic belief of the Pentecostals, as it is considered an early manifestation of the Spirit's Baptism (SB). Nevertheless, this doctrine began to fade away with the emergence of the Charismatic movement, which believed that other gifts could be the first signs of God's presence. As a result of this research, we intend to (1) demonstrate how speaking in tongue was the first evidence for SB in the Bible, (2) dig into the understanding of certain Pentecostal and non-Pentecostal theologians as to its significance, and (3) look into the experiences of ex-non-Pentecostal/Charismatic believers in experiencing the SB, in order to find out how tongues played a role in that experience. By utilizing qualitative methods with a structured literature review and phenomenology approaches to two informants, we were able to achieve these objectives. Tongues consistently function as early evidence of SB, according to the results of this study. As a result, tongues convince people who experience them or serve as an assurance for people who do not experience them to find out what SB is.
