Abstract

Mathematics has a very important role in the development of modern era so that it needs alternative learning that can be digested well and useful even relevant for learners, especially in terms of representing. One of the alternatives in learning model that can be applied is the learning model of Designed Student-Centered Instructional, the model has an advantage where one phase of learning process using inquiry approach Hands On-Activity that learners do touching on the props so that learners can see and hold objects directly and represent it. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of learning model of Student-Centered Instructional modeled to the ability of student representation and know the students' response to the learning of mathematics by using model of Designed Student-Centered Instructional. The method used in this research was quasi experimental method. The study was conducted in class VIII A as experimental class and VIII B as control class at SMPN 02 Megamendung. The instruments used were test representations, questionnaires and observation sheets. In this research, quantitative data is analyzed by finding mean, standard deviation, normality test, homogeneity test and difference of two mean of learners and qualitative data was analyzed by using likert's attitude scale. Based on quantitative and qualitative data analysis, the concepts of representational ability have a high effect on the learning model of Designed Student-Centered Instructional and have a positive response to learning model of Designed Student-Centered Instructional.
