<![CDATA[In this modern era, the value of character has decreased a lot as we can see from the many immoral deviant actions, especially in the student environment. If parents have the wrong pattern, it will affect their character values and learning discipline, even in applying or practicing their knowledge. Likewise with the method or pattern of care given by the hostel's foster father to his students as a substitute for the students' parents in arranging and carving out the expected morals and morals. Therefore, the author examines the role of foster fathers in improving the learning discipline of santri at Ma'had Tahfidz Al-Ansor Medan which aims to determine the role of foster fathers and the learning activities of santri in improving learning discipline at Ma'had Tahfidz Al-Ansor Medan. Then, this research uses a qualitative descriptive phenomenological methodology. So it was found that the foster father plays a maximum role as a substitute for the students' parents, as a motivator, as a role model, as an advisor, as a trainer, as a character builder, as an educator, as an evaluator in order to achieve students who are independent, hardworking, entrepreneurial, competitive and honest so that they can compete in the world of work and life with the knowledge. Then, the student learning activities at Ma'had Tahfis Al-Ansor Medan in improving student discipline use situational patterns, namely combining authoritarian and democratic patterns.
