Abstract

The acceptance of the history of heresy na>s}ibi> is a serious problem for the methodology of traditional hadith science. Instead of solving the solution created it adds to the problem because it is ad hoc.  There is a metodogic discretionary or dissimilarity between theory and practice caused by a single paradigm (mono-disciplinary) that makes the study of hadith the way in place. This article offers a new paradigm in approaching hadith, namely the interdisciplinary paradigm as an effort to overcome the stagnation of the methodology of hadith criticism. The problems that arise in hadith science are seen from various points of view; historical, social, and philosophical. As a result, the methodology of the old hadith criticism i.e. the science  of  jarh} wa ta’di>l is subjective cannot be used as the only tool for assessing the quality of hadith. A new approach is needed, namely abductive as a judge for the subjectivity of  traditional jarh} wa ta’di>l clerics.

Abstract

The understanding of religious moderation (Wasaṭiyah) contained in the Qur'an is important, especially when faced with situations that are considered far from justice and contain extremist values. With this situation, the scholars, especially the commentators, gave a special understanding of the teachings of religious moderation by relying on the Qur'an to respond and be a solution so as not to contract the disease of extremism. However, the problem is that not all interpretations are considered moderately oriented, one of which is the interpretation of Fî Ẓilāl Al-Qur’an, even Sayyid Quṭub as the author is considered one of the main inspirations of all extreme actions in the name of Islam. The purpose of this study is to review and criticize interpretations related to religious moderation (Wasaṭiyah) from the side of people who are considered not moderate in terms of the extreme values ​​contained in it. This study uses a descriptive-analytical method with a character study approach. The conclusion of this study is that Sayyid Quṭub understands that religious moderation (Wasaṭiyah) is the essence of Islamic teaching itself. There are at least two main aspects of religious moderation (Wasaṭiyah) contained in surah al-Baqarah verse 143, namely aspects of faith and politics. According to him, the only moderate creed and politics is Islamic creed and politics, which must be applied equally on earth, while the rest are jahiliyah beliefs and politics which are far from justice. From the above understanding, several extreme values ​​were found, including the attitude of takfirism towards other Muslims, the attitude of monopolizing politics in only one religion, and the concept of jihad in the form of violence for the sake of the implementation of the political ideology he believed in.

Abstract

The theory of ‘adâlah al-ṣaḥâbah which is adobted by mainstream hadith experts should be critized. This inseparable from several facts tha are presented to us. Several facts assumed to support the companions justice. Such as companion’s loyalty, obedience, and readiness to sacriface for the prophet. However, we are also confronted with facts which demonstrate their disobedience to the prophet. Arguments ready to sacrifice to defend the prophet contradict other facts that show their efforts to avoid even fleeing from the battlefield. However, how to explain a contradiction like this is a problem that hadith experts have left to float and gave birth to a never-ending debate. This paper puspose to put an end this circular debate by applaying the concept of ‘adâlat al-râwi to the Companions. Using the historical critical method and content analysis, this paper tries to reexamine the concept of ‘adâlah al-ṣaḥâbah by tracing the origin of the word ṣa-ḥâ-bah in the Qur’an and Hadith. And then redifining the criteria of Companions which has implication to their integrity. The behavior of many of the Companions contradicted the instructions of the Qur’an dan Hadith and contrary to the principles of justice made by hadits expert. The concept of ‘adâlah al-ṣaḥâbah is more fitting to be called a dogma rather than a scientific theory because it is not slack in the face of historical analysis
