Abstract

Background: Anxiety is one of the psychological factors that affect hypertension. Intense, excessive, and persistent worry and fear regarding everyday situations. The Purpose This study aims to determine the effect of Murottal Al-Qur'an on reducing anxiety in the elderly with hypertension at Paguyaman Pantai Health Center. Methods: This study was carried out for two weeks using a quasi-experimental method with a two group pre-posttest design approach, namely the measurement was carried out by giving initial observations before being given an intervention, after that an intervention was given, then a posttest or final observation was carried out. There are 20 samples who suffer from anxiety where 10 people in the intervention group murottal Al-Qur'an and 10 people in the control group without murottal Al-Qur'an. The instrument used was the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS/SRAS) questionnaire. Analysis of the data in this study using Univariate Analysis and Bivariate Analysis. Bivariate analysis using Lambda Test Statistical Test. Results: The results showed that there were differences in the level of pre and post anxiety in the intervention group given Murottal Al-Qur'an, with a p-value of 0.001 or p?0.05, meaning there was a significant difference. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of murottal Al-Qur'an on reducing anxiety in the elderly with hypertension at the Paguyaman Beach Community Health Center.

Abstract

Introduction: Prediabetes is a critical intermediary metabolic condition that substantially increases the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease. Rapid urbanization and dietary transition in Indonesia have contributed to increased consumption of energy-dense fast food among young adults, potentially accelerating early metabolic dysregulation. This study aimed to determine the association between the frequency of fast-food consumption and prediabetes among young adults in an urban primary healthcare setting in Makassar, Indonesia. Research Methodology: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted from August to September 2023 at Malimongan Baru Community Health Center. A total of 57 young adults aged 20–35 years were recruited using convenience sampling. Fast food consumption frequency was assessed using a structured Food Frequency Questionnaire. Prediabetes was defined as fasting blood glucose levels of 100–125 mg/dL. Descriptive statistics were performed, followed by bivariate analysis and multivariable logistic regression to estimate adjusted odds ratios (AOR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Statistical significance was set at α = 0.05. Results: 86.0% of participants reported high fast-food consumption, and 54.4% were classified as having prediabetes. In multivariable analysis, frequent fast-food consumption was independently associated with prediabetes (AOR = 2.03; 95% CI: 1.12–3.87; p = 0.021). Participants with BMI ≥25 kg/m² also had higher odds of prediabetes (AOR = 2.67; 95% CI: 1.18–6.02; p = 0.018). Conclusion: Frequent fast-food consumption is a significant behavioral determinant of prediabetes among urban young adults. Integrating dietary risk screening and nutrition counseling within primary healthcare services is essential to prevent early progression to type 2 diabetes.

Abstract

Introduction: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic condition requiring sustained self-management to prevent complications and maintain quality of life. Despite increasing prevalence, evidence on how self-care behaviors influence patient-reported outcomes in primary care settings remains limited. This study aimed to examine the association between self-care practices and quality of life among patients with T2DM. Research Methodology: A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted at Cendrawasih Health Center, Makassar, Indonesia, from June to September 2023. A total of 266 participants were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using the WHOQOL-BREF and Self-Care Activity Scale. Descriptive statistics and chi-square tests were performed, followed by logistic regression to estimate adjusted odds ratios (AOR) with 95% confidence intervals. Results: Most respondents demonstrated good self-care (98.5%) and very good quality of life (96.6%). Bivariate analysis showed a significant association between self-care and quality of life (p < 0.001; C = 0.489). In multivariate analysis, good self-care was strongly associated with higher odds of a very good quality of life (AOR = 12.85; 95% CI: 2.10–78.60; p = 0.005), after adjusting for age, sex, duration of diabetes, and education level. Conclusion: Self-care practices are a strong and independent determinant of quality of life in T2DM patients. Strengthening structured self-management education, continuous monitoring, and community-based support systems is essential to improve patient outcomes. Integrating behavioral and health system interventions may enhance sustainable diabetes management.
