Abstract

Uncontrolled Diabetes Mellitus (DM) causes chronic complications, such as Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFU). This complication could be prevented by foot care education using video. However, in terms of providing this information, the delivery technique using the language approach is one that needs attention, especially for people with Diabetes Mellitus who spoke traditional languages. This study was pre-experimental quantitative research with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The instrument used in this research were 10 question items questionnaire and a foot care education video lasted 5 minutes 15 seconds. The results revealed that 36.7% of respondents showed good knowledge, 56.7% moderate knowledge, and 6.7% poor knowledge. Meanwhile, after providing education, respondents having a good knowledge increase to 90%, respondents having moderate knowledge increase to 10%, and no respondent having poor knowledge. In conclusion, there is a significant improvement in the foot care of patients with DFU after receiving an educational video with traditional languages. Therefore, the strategy of providing video education using traditional language needs to be integrated into the promotive program.
