Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the significant effect of using Hand-Puppet Video towardstudents’ listening comprehension in learning narrative text. This research used quantitative methodand quasi experimental design. This research was conducted at eighth gradeof SMPN 1 PONTANG inacademic year 2021/2022. The experimental class was taught by using hand-puppet media and the controlclass without using hand-puppet media. The samples of this research were VIII A as experimentaldesign and VIII B as control class, each class consisted 30students. The data was collected by usingtest which consisted of pre-test and post-test. The calculating from t-test showed that the value of t-testwas higher than the value of t-table (7.177 ≥2.00) at the level of significant of a 0.05 and degree of freedomis 58. It means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted and null hypothesis was rejected and theresult of the research showed that using hand-puppet media had significant effect towards students’listening comprehension. From those findings, it could be concluded that there was significant effectof using hand-puppetmedia towards students’ listening comprehension in narrative text learning ateighth grade of SMPN 1 PONTANG.

Abstract

The present study aims to describe the inferiority feeling and striving for superiority aspects of the main character, "Mathilde Loisel" in the short story "The Diamond Necklace" by a French author, Guy De Maupassant. The data source of this research is primarily taken from the sentences containing dialogues and conflicts experienced by the main character, Mathilde Loisel in the short story of "The Diamond Necklace" by Guy De Maupassant. While the secondary data were taken from any references related to the theory of literature, Alfred Adler’s Individual Psychology, and related researches. This research uses descriptive qualitative method and uses literature and documentation as data collection method. The results of the data analysis showed that the main character Mathilde Loisel struggled from her inferiority (her shortcomings) to her superiority using various forms of complex compensation and superiority. The results of analysis showed that this short story deserves to be discussed in literature study since there are many positive values that can be learned for individual character building.Keywords:  main character; psychology of literature; Individual Psychology; inferiority; superiority

Abstract

  The purpose of this study was to determine how project-based learning affected the speaking skills of eleventh-grade students at SMAN 2 Kota Serang-Banten. The researcher employed cluster random sampling as the sampling strategy and a quantitative approach with a real experimental design. According to the pre-test results, the experimental class's minimum score was 48, whereas the control class's minimal score was 32. The experimental class's highest score was 84, while the control class's highest score was 72. We can conclude that there was no significant difference between the two classes' pre-tests. The experimental class's minimal score on the post-test was 62, while the control class's minimum score was 60. The experimental class had a maximum score of 86, whereas the control class had a maximum score of 76. We can conclude that there was a significant difference between the two classes' pre-tests. T.count≥t_table, or 7.37 ≥ 2.00, was determined based on the outcome of the test of mean difference significant (independent t_test). The alternate theory was approved. At the eleventh grade of SMAN 2 Kota Serang, it can be concluded that project-based learning had an impact on students' speaking skills. It is suggested for the English teachers to apply the PjBL model and focus on making students be more active in speaking class.
