Abstract

This article provides a number of simple educational ideas promoted to enhance some core competences of a Madrasah teacher which can be reached by two terms of strategies : short term and long term strategies. The short term covers five aspects. The first aspect which is defined as fundamental discusses the way how a Madrasah teacher perceives his/her teaching profession, colleagues, students, and issues on education. Having able to rethink these domains will lead him or her know his or her positive and negative sides. Such understanding of both sides should force him/her to have a strong commitment to enrich the positive side, on one hand, and to diminish the negative one, on the other hand. Then, a Madrasah teacher needs to reflect this commitment in his or her individual competence to carry on learning and improving his or her technical capacity in instruction. This may be one of the corner stones to develop himself or herself to be able to implement the assignment responsibly. The capacity as a professional teacher may also bring him or her to be well-informed figure whom people around him or her will become to be enlightened. Next, this professional teacher should not also set up in one or more comfort zones, such as typical system and culture of organization, which make him or her enjoy the life as it is, he or she is required to open his or her mind to look for new, more and other challenging comfort zones in accordance with his or her future career. After that, he or she should consider and internalize wisely ethical values which are called as Islamic professional ethics as his or her spirit to carry out his or her job. Finally, this distinguished post should listen to his or her deepest voice of heart as well. These voices are about to put as his or her inspiring component to be acted as effective as possible. The long term strategy, however, merely emphasizes on one single aspect, that is the importance of educational and training services. Once a madrasah teacher has a paralleled background of study he or she may already have one valuable point. His or her other capacity will be easily explored and served through a series of appropriate trainings. The trainings are academically considered to be an additional mean for his or her outshined career.

Abstract

This research portraits the supervision for the State Islamic Senior High Schools (MAN 1 and MAN 2) Samarinda. It focuses on the competence, the achievement, and the system run by a MAN supervisor-Samarinda Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA). Generally speaking, the supervisors have undertaken their profession well. Although, their skills and the results in doing so vary one to another, but these imply no significant different. In terms of the competence, some of whom have accomplished a qualified minimum standard. And all of them, supported by various integrated backgrounds, such as academic and teaching experience, have succeeded to do any kinds of supervision matters. This success can be taken into account as one of the challenging parameters of their commitment to do some valuable efforts for MAN teachers’ qualities and the advancement for a MAN system of academic qualities as well. Yet, as far as the system of supervision is concerned, many of these supervisors, in the view of supervisees, are regarded less capable in providing a professional academic supervision services. In reality, the limitation in numbers, regulations and profits are the problems for a supervisor in doing his or her supervisor affairs, but they are not among the prime factors influence his or her professionality.

The first aspect is about the effectiveness of irregular Islamic studies instructional achievement run in (academic year) 2103/2014. The second aspect is the leaders of STAIN Samarinda political interests concerning with PESKAM empowerment including institutional, instructional design, financial suffort, and the staffs. The third aspect is the regular Islamic studies lecturers’ academic sensitivity. And the last aspect is concerning with the design reliability of irregular Islamic studies program. The research shows that redesign is a must. It is imperative for STAIN Samarinda to redesign both PESKAM policy and its instructional framework for the irregular Islamic studies system. First, the system run during academic year 2013/2014 could not be considered effective. It did not use any general academic standards and could not be approached in terms of modern instructional management and design, such as the evaluation system designed to know periodically both the competence that a learner (a student in PESKAM) must be about to master and the process run to do such instruction as well.  However, all staffs and those who were in charge of managing the program worked hard and did all their best. Second, irregular Islamic studies instruction is viewed as the spirit for PESKAM in general. Its valuable benefit meets the stakeholders’ need. Finally, it is the cornerstone which can be accredited as the prime aspect distinguishing STAIN Samarinda from any general university (PTN/PTS)

Abstract

The Bajau people, an indigenous group residing along the shores of the archipelago, primarily in Borneo and Celebes Islands, perceive their religiosity differently from other land-based or maritime societies. This paper aims to explore the dimensions of religiosity among the Bajau Samah in Kotabaru, South Kalimantan. This ethnographic research involved researchers participating in the community’s religious-cultural activities, such as the Ma’dupa and Menyurung rituals. The findings reveal that the Bajau Samah are inseparable from their sea and ancestors. These elements are not only their sources of livelihood and wisdom but also crucial ‘figures’ that shape their religiosity. Their experiences and thought processes regarding the sea and their ancestors manifest in various forms: religious feeling, religious belief, religious knowledge, religious practice, and religious effect. This study argues that while adat (customary law) and religion (Islam) are distinct domains, they collectively constitute the religiosity of the Bajau Samah, as evidenced in Kotabaru.
