Abstract

Catcalling is a form of verbal sexual harassment that most women face in public. Catcalling is inseparable from women with syar'i snacks. Because of their clothing, women with a sharia appearance are marginalized. Therefore, the focus of this study is public catcalling of women with a natural syar'i appearance. In the data collection process, authors use in-depth interviews or in-depth interview techniques with informants to explore information and support research. In addition, the authors use the snowball technique to determine research informants with desired characteristics. The authors use a theory developed by Patricia Hill Collins to explain social interactions about the oppression women experience due to gender-based oppression and how women experience oppression differently due to various other social inequalities, based on the results of data analysis. In addition, it is supported by Alfred Schutz's motive theory, which states that a person's current behaviour is influenced by their past motivations. False conditions in past behaviour that then develop with current motives impact the theory of motivation used. As a result, catcalling remains undervalued and is considered a joke. This shows the existence of gender bias in men's perceptions of women. In reality, women do not report the severity of their treatment to authorities because the legal framework around catcalling is still inadequate. They can only try to defend themselves by avoiding deserted areas and travelling in groups.
