Abstract

This present study has aim to answer a question “is there any relationship between students’ learning styles in TOEFL reading comprehension test?”. Therefore, this study was done for knowing whether there is a significant relationship between students’ learning styles in reading comprehension performance on the TOEFL test or not. The University of Islam Malang was chosen as the place to conduct this study with 37 students in the fourth semester of English Department. A questionnaire and TOEFL reading test were used as the instruments in this study to find the result. Both of the instruments were done in 45 minutes. Based on the results that were counted statistically using SPSS, the findings showed that the score of visual (M = 43,22), kinesthetic (M = 38,70), and auditory (M = 35,00) for reading achievement. Moreover, it also showed that df = 2, F = 1.102, P = .344. The results informed that there is no significant difference between students’ learning style in TOEFL reading comprehension performance. Due to limitations that exist in this quantitative study, future researchers are suggested to do research which broader population involvement and include reading strategies to give more insightful results regarding reading comprehension that might be useful for the learning process.

Abstract

Online learning has been one of the best available options for coping with the teaching and learning process during the pandemic era. Understanding teachers' and students' perceptions of online learning has been an important and popular research topic. The focus of the current study is ascertaining whether the teachers and students can do the online teaching and learning process optimally. The subject of the study was 15 teachers and 52 primary students of SD Muhammadiyah 03 Tumpang who have faced online learning for almost two years. This study used a survey method with an online close-ended questionnaire to capture the perceptions of students and teachers on online learning implementation. The results indicated that the teachers and students perceived online learning negatively even though they agreed it was a suitable learning system during the pandemic. The study implies that online learning may positively or negatively impact students and teachers. However, it can be an alternative to learning over a long distance, and it is also one of the ways to define the technology to the teachers and students, especially in rural schools.

Abstract

It is undeniable that teaching writing needs a lot of media as it can motivate the students in producing good writing. Moreover, nowadays, most of higher education uses technology for having the easier and more efficient in teaching and learning process. Hence, it is undeniable that the teachers should utilize some learning media applications during their teaching. However, the teacher still faces some difficulties in choosing the appropriate learning media for teaching writing which makes the learning process not run well. This article aimed to review some learning media application possibilities that finally can be used as the pedagogical implications for the teachers in choosing the appropriate media used for writing in hybrid classrooms. Furthermore, as a result, the researcher found that Schoology, Padlet, Facebook, Edmodo, and Google Classroom are the appropriate learning media applications that the teachers in the writing classroom can use. It is because those media are easy to be operated and motivate students in writing. Therefore, those can be selected by the teachers for their teaching writing.
