Abstract

Learning difficulties are obstacles or distractions experienced by students in learning activities that hinder the achievement of learning objectives. In this case, students have learning difficulties with genetic material. Genetics is the science that studies the inheritance of traits, similarities, and differences in traits inherited by living things or passed on from parents to their offspring. This material is one of the materials studied in Biology in class XII. This study aimed to analyze the learning difficulties of class XII students on genetics. This descriptive study aims to describe and determine the causes of learning difficulties on genetics for class XII students at one high school in Cibeber, Indonesia. The data collection technique in this study used a questionnaire with a sample of class XII students at a high school in Banten, Indonesia. Through the research that has been done, it can be concluded that students have student learning difficulties found in genetic material (chromosomes, genes, DNA, and RNA) and foreign concepts and terms found in the process of cell division and inheritance.

Abstract

Pontang is one of the villages in Banten with a high potential for natural resources but unexplored potential for human resources. Continuous socialization and mentoring are one way to increase the potential and knowledge of the Pontang people. This activity aims to determine an increase in Pontang people's knowledge of oyster mushrooms' nutritional contents and their benefits in meeting food needs. The method used in this activity is a case study with questionnaires and interviews as instruments. This activity was started by giving questionnaires about the initial knowledge of oyster mushrooms' nutritional contents to 20 samples. After that, socialization and mentoring were carried out in oyster mushroom processing into oyster mushroom meatballs. Interviews related to participants' knowledge of the oyster mushrooms' nutritional contents were conducted at the end of the activity. This activity showed increased knowledge about the oyster mushrooms' nutritional contents and benefits and participants' satisfaction after socialization and mentoring in oyster mushroom processing. This activity initiated the participants to utilize oyster mushrooms as an alternative to meet their daily vegetable protein needs. In addition, this activity initiated the participants to explore entrepreneurial potential, such as innovation in processed oyster mushroom food.

Abstract

Scientific argumentation is one of the key competencies in 21st-century science learning that must be mastered by prospective biology teachers. This study aims to map the profile of prospective biology teachers' scientific argumentation abilities based on the level of argumentation quality and the achievement of each indicator. This study used a quantitative approach with a descriptive design. The subjects were prospective biology teacher students selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument was a scientific argumentation test based on a biology context developed based on the Claim, Data, Warrant, Support, and Rebuttal framework. Data were analyzed descriptively by converting scores into percentages and mapping them to scientific argumentation Levels 1–5. The results showed that the Claim indicator achieved the highest percentage of 59%, while the Data (43%), Warrant (43%), Backing (41%), and Rebuttal (41%) indicators were in the lower category. Based on the mapping level, the scientific argumentation abilities of prospective general biology teachers were generally at Level 3 (fairly developed), with a tendency for some students to remain at Level 2, particularly in the components of scientific reasoning, strengthening theory, and developing rebuttals. These findings serve as recommendations for the implementation of STEM learning to strengthen scientific argumentation. Abstract

For kindergarten and elementary school teachers to be ready to face the challenges of the 21st century, they must have STEM literacy. This study describes the definition of STEM literacy for kindergarten and elementary school teachers. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. By using a random sampling technique, the subjects of this research were kindergarten and elementary school teachers in Serang City, Banten, Indonesia. In this research, a STEM literacy questionnaire was employed, which consisted of three aspects: knowledge, attitudes, and skills. To gather data, a Google Form was distributed to kindergarten and elementary school teachers in Serang City. Then, the data was gathered and analyzed. The results indicate that most teachers have a good conceptual understanding of STEM as an integrative approach, but this understanding remains at a descriptive level and has not been fully implemented in learning practices. Systematic training is needed to strengthen the pedagogical implementation of STEM in a contextual and developmentally appropriate manner.

Abstract

Students' perceptions of science were not only a response, but this is one of the factors that influence the motivational process and the formation of intention to act. This study aimed to analyze the causal relationship between students' perceptions of science learning and their intention to act in learning. The research method used is a survey method (exposure facto) using path analysis. The research instrument used was a questionnaire. The questionnaire statements consist of positive and negative statements measured using likert scale with five response categories. The subjects in this study were students of at a Private Senior High School in Serang, Indonesia with a total of 76 respondents. The results of the study indicate an influence of students' perceptions of science on their intention to act in learning with a path coefficient of p21 = 0.805. These results can be a basis for strengthening teachers in designing learning.
