Abstract

Urban forest is one of few alternatives to balance the deterioration in the quality of environment. Jakarta has 14 urban forests under the coordination of the Department of Marine and Fisheries. In contrast, there is also urban forest located in South Jakarta and managed by local community to provide not only for preserving environment but also providing social life for local inhabitants. This paper aims to analyze the roles of community in the urban forest management. In addition as a city buffer, urban forest is also have an immense economic potential to improve the well-being of local community. The case of urban forest described in this paper is Sangga Buana located at Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta. Through observations, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions, it is found that the responsibility in managing urban forest depends not solely on the government but also on the community. The Sangga Buana urban forest is one of examples where the local community practically has managed the forest. Since the very first time this urban forest was developed, the contribution of the government in the development of this site is almost unheard. This lack of support, however, initiates the local community to manage and develop the forest. The roles of local community in the urban forest management are arranged as a long-term participation. As such, the local community is transformed from merely a passive stakeholder of urban forest to active management of it. The forest now functions not only as a buffer to prevent floods and drought, but also provides economic benefits for the local community. In this sense, this urban forest has appeared as embodiment of the concept of sustainable green environment. Keywords: urban forest, Sangga Buana, role of community, green environment, Jakarta

Abstract

This paper is a reflection of a concept that becomes a central concern in the study of anthropology, namely culture. The concept of culture is interesting to be debated because the author assumes that the meaning of culture is rich and highly dependent on the paradigm of the person or group of people, who interpret it. By using the memory of life experiences and supported by every day observation as the data, the author aims to understand what culture is. Nevertheless, the life trajectories that are still being experienced today still leave the question about the culture itself. Keywords: life experience, reflection, culture, autoethnography

Abstract

One of challenges of sustainable urban development is to provide a viable environment for the population following the function of space and community activities within it. Research on green space in the Netherlands is important as a response to the global environmental crisis as well as the realization of sustainable development. This research uses an interdisciplinary approach through the analysis of the phenomena of spatial management in the context of local-global sustainable urban development. An interdisciplinary approach is used because the issue of "sustainable cities" is multidimensional, so it takes more than one perspective in reviewing it, in this multidisciplinary research involved among others anthropology, urban social planning and sociology. Based on the research problem formulated, the science perspectives are expected to answer the question of how space is interpreted, negotiated and become a vehicle for the distribution of sustainable development ideas. This dynamic also captured the context of green space management so that this study contributes to enriching theoretical studies on the construction of urban spaces. This research question is answered through qualitative methods of collecting primary data through interviews, focused discussions and observations, as well aw searching related literature as secondary data. The result of this study found that the attention of the Dutch environmental policy has also regulated spatial management, primarily related to "space" as part of human activities and has environmental and social impacts. Spatial policy in the eDutch context is articulated as a place of negotiation embodied in the EU's global and regional collective consensus.

Abstract

Job stress is a major psychological challenge for educational staff in higher education institutions (HEIs), often triggered by high administrative workloads and time pressure. This study analyzes the association between job stress, cyberloafing, and the performance of 223 educational staff at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY). Using a quantitative approach with an ex-post facto design, data were collected through structured questionnaires (Aiken’s V: 0.67–1.00; Cronbach’s Alpha > 0.87) and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The findings reveal that job stress is positively associated with performance (t = 7.479; p < 0.05), and cyberloafing also shows a significant positive correlation (t = 3.630; p < 0.05). Simultaneously, both variables explain 43.5% of the variation in performance (F = 84.771; R2 = 0.435). These results suggest that within the specific context of Indonesian HEIs, moderate stress and brief digital recovery are linked to higher productivity. Practically, this study recommends that university administrators implement adaptive HR policies, such as workload management and educational digital literacy programs, rather than strictly restrictive internet policies, to support sustainable staff performance.
