Abstract

This research entitled A Study of Adjacency Pairs in The Late Late Show with James Corden, A Case Study in An Afternoon with Prince Harry and James Corden Episode investigates particular social action which is indicated from pair utterances and preference. This research tries to find kind of adjacency pairs which are included in conversation between James and Prince Harry, which are the dominant types of adjacency pairs, and the particular social action that is revealed between James and Prince Harry. The data were analyzed using Harvey Sack (1986) and Yule (1996) theory. This research applied descriptive qualitative method with case study design to obtain the result. the data that were analyzed were taken from The Late Late Show with James Corden YouTube channel that were including transcribing, identifying, coding, describing and interpreting. The researcher found thirty-five pairs utterances that construct in the conversation between James Corden and Prince Harry which are ten types of adjacency pairs found. At last, researcher found that question-answer is the dominant types of adjacency pairs that relate with this research subject, Talk Show, which absolutely will contain question answer segment and preferred response is the dominant preference structure which indicates both James and Prince Harry close to each other in pragmatic perspective.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to recognize what kind of language disorder experienced by Sam as an autistic in ‘Atypical’ series 2017-2021, to describe what factors of language disorder experienced by Sam, and to describe what therapy of language disorder for Sam. The researcher uses qualitative method for doing this research. The data was taken from the utterances of autistic, Sam Gardner as the main character. There were 60 phenomenon of language disorder, 58 receptive language disorder and 2 expressive language disorder. The most common symptom of receptive language disorder experienced by Sam is difficulty following verbal directions 21 data, followed by interpreting words or phrases 19 data, not appearing to listen 12 data, limited vocabulary 3 data, difficulty understanding complex sentence 2 data, and demonstrating lack of interest 1 data. Meanwhile, Sam just experienced two symptoms of expressive language disorder, word-finding difficulties 1 data and over-reliance on stock phrases 1 data. This phenomenon occurs caused by many factors, whether difficulty in joint attention, failed in integrated the information with semantic attributes, autism symptoms such as echolalia, deficits in ToM, trouble in retrieval words, etc.

Abstract

The use of social media platforms by students is growing rapidly. Therefore, teachers can capitalize on the growing interest in using social media in the classroom as its popularity among students continues to rise. Instagram is a very famous social media site. This research will explain how Instagram can be utilized to teach secondary school students in the art of writing Recount texts. This research is based on a real factual issue regarding students' difficulties in writing recount texts at the high school level. This research examines the challenges students face when tasked with creating recount texts and then highlights Instagram as a possible solution. This research focuses on discussing students' difficulties in writing recount texts and then presents Instagram as a solution to the students' difficulties. In answering the research question, the researcher used a qualitative approach with a Narrative Inquiry design in obtaining data that has been analyzed using the interactive model as the concept. This study found the results of students' difficulties in writing recount texts which include vocabulary, mechanics, grammar, content, and organization. The next result is that students can determine strategies in learning to write by writing status/caption on social media (Instagram) using English..
