Abstract

The writing of this journal aims to describe self-improvement and its connection with behavioristic theory within this literary work. The selected genre is a self-reflection novel titled 'I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki.' It can be concluded that this novel can be analyzed through the lens of behavioristic theory because it illustrates the protagonist's process of becoming better through stimuli provided by the surrounding environment. The novel revolves around the main character, the author of this novel, Baek Se-Hee, who experiences dysthymia—a condition characterized by a low but persistent level of depression. Throughout the story in this novel, Baek undergoes inner conflicts and expresses a desire to end his life, but this desire gradually fades as Baek discovers something that gives him a renewed sense of purpose. This journal elaborates on ideas about self-improvement and its connection with behavioristic theory. The research results indicate that this novel is capable of guiding readers to find inspiration and a bright spot in their dark lives. Furthermore, this journal examines the novel through a psychological lens..
