Abstract

Abstract Nigella sativa (N. sativa) has been used in traditional medicine, and several studies have been performed in the last decades to reveal its effects of it on different medical disorders such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and obesity. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Nigella sativa extract in an alloxan-induced mice model. This research was a true experimental post-test-only control group design. Eight-weeks old male Mus musculus were treated with alloxan (150 mg/ kg) by a single intraperitoneal injection to induce diabetes mellitus. At three days of injection, N. sativa extract (150 and 300 mg/kg) was administered via gavage for two weeks. The result of this study showed that N. sativa seed extract had a significant (P<0.05) nephroprotective effect on the kidneys based on the degree of kidney damage in alloxan-induced mice. This effect may be due to Nigella sativa’s antioxidant properties. Keywords: Nigella sativa, histology kidney, oxidative stress

Abstract

CV. Karya Cipta Baru merupakan suatu tempat kerja yang bergerak di bidang reparasi truk, konstruksi, dan karoseri. Berdasarkan pengamatan yang telah dilakukan di lokasi, pengetahuan dan keterampilan tentang penanggulangan kondisi darurat khususnya kebakaran belum dikuasai oleh para pekerja, bahkan tidak tersedianya APAR di lokasi tersebut. Hal tersebut tentu menjadi permasalahan tersendiri apabila terjadi suatu kebakaran mengingat sebagaian besar proses pekerjaan yang dilakukan di industri tersebut memiliki potensi yang tinggi akan terjadinya kebakaran. Tujuan dilakukan kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah untuk mengedukasi pemilik dan para pekerja tentang pencegahan dan penanggulangan kebakaran, kegiatan ini juga memberikan pelatihan pemadaman kebakaran dengan menggunakan karung goni dan alat pemadam api ringan. Selain itu dilakukan juga identifikasi jumlah kebutuhan APAR sesuai Permenakertrans No. 4 Tahun 1980 dan penyediaan Alat Pemadam Api Ringan di perusahaan tersebut. Jumlah peserta dalam kegiatan ini adalah 10 orang. Hasil yang telah didapatkan dari kegiatan ini adalah meningkatnya pengetahuan pekerja dan pemilik industri tentang kondisi tanggap darurat kebakaran, meningkatnya keterampilan pemilik dan pekerja CV. Karya Cipta Baru dalam menggunakan Alat Pemadam Api Ringan dan alat pemadam api tradisional, yaitu karung goni, dan tersedianya Alat Pemadam Api Ringan di CV. Karya Cipta Baru. Kegiatan ini telah meningkatkan taraf hidup mitra dalam bidang sosial, budaya, ekonomi, keamanan, kesehatan, pendidikan, dan hukum

Abstract

Air quality in Surabaya faces serious challenges due to motor vehicle emissions, industrial pollution, and a lack of green space, which directly impact public health, especially the respiratory system, leading to diseases such as asthma and bronchitis. To address this, a community service program using lecture and simulation methods was conducted, involving 40 male and female students at an Islamic boarding school. The lecture lasted 40 minutes, using PPT and poster media, and pre- and post-test questionnaires to measure participants knowledge improvement. Furthermore, a simulation was conducted in collaboration with the Islamic boarding school to plantbamboo palms on May 11, 2024. The results showed a significant increase in students knowledge about the benefits of bamboo palms as an effort to prevent air pollution, with a significant difference in pre- and post-test scores. The lecture approach accompanied by visual media proved effective in increasing understanding of the role of bamboo palms in reducing pollution in the Islamic boarding school environment, so this education successfully raised students awareness of the importance of air pollutioncontrol efforts.
