Abstract

Pakcoy (Brassica rapa L.) is a short-cycle leafy vegetable whose growth is strongly influenced by nutrient availability and the physical quality of the growing media. This study evaluated the response of pakcoy to fermented banana corm liquid organic fertilizer and two growing medium compositions. The experiment was conducted in Sinorang Village, South Batui District, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi, from March to June 2025 using a randomized block design with two factors: fertilizer concentration (0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 mL/L) and growing medium (soil + rice husk charcoal and soil + wet rice husk), with five replications. Plant height, leaf number, and leaf width were observed weekly from one to five weeks after planting, while fresh weight was measured at harvest. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA, linear mixed models, two-way ANOVA, and Tukey post hoc comparisons. The results showed that the soil + rice-husk charcoal medium consistently supported better vegetative growth and higher fresh weight than the soil + wet rice-husk medium. The fertilizer effect was not fully linear across parameters; several high responses occurred in the charcoal-based medium, even without additional fertilizer. Thus, growing medium quality was the dominant factor determining pakcoy performance, whereas banana corm liquid organic fertilizer functioned as a complementary input whose effectiveness depended on the medium conditions.
