Abstract

On April 10th, 2021, at 14:00 local time, there was a destructive earthquake in the southern part of East Java area from the intraslab zone, resulting 9 people victim in Malang and Lumajang regency, 121 people injuries in Malang and Blitar regency, and thousands of buildings damage in the area of South East Java. Also, this earthquake has triggered a small landslide and soil cracks type of lateral spreading. The maximum earthquake shaking occur in the southern part of Malang and Lumajang regency with earthquake intensity scale of MMI (Modified Mercally Intensity). Result of surface shaking modelling in the southern of East Java region ranged from 0.092 g (gravity) to 0.13 g.

Abstract

A series of earthquakes with the mainshock on July 29th, 2018, August 5th, 2018 and August 19th, 2018 occurred in Lombok island. These earthquake has caused 559 fatalities, 1,478 people injured and 185.483 of buildings damaged in the Lombok and Sumbawa island. All type of earthquake hazards occurred namely ground shaking, minor fault surface rupture and collateral hazard such as liquefaction and landslides. Earthquake shaking felt strong in Lombok Utara and Lombok Timur with earthquake intensity scale of VIII MMI (Modified Mercally Intensity). Earthquake on July 29 th , 2018 with magnitude of M 6,4 result rupture zone 218,7762 km2, earthquake on August 5 th, 2018 and onAugust 19th, 2018 with magnitude of M 7,0 result rupture zone 758,5776 km2.

Abstract

Lebong is an area in Indonesia that is prone to the earthquake caused by the subduction zone in the sea and active fault on the land. The morphotectonic analysis and the source of the destructive earthquake show that the earthquake in Lebong area is caused by the active faults of Ketaun segment, Sumatra fault, and Pelabai fault. Ketaun segment of Sumatra fault caused a destructive earthquake in 1952, while Pelabai fault caused a destructive earthquake in 2017. The destructive earthquake on Desember 6, 2017 gave us a lesson on the importance of themitigation effort in Lebong area. The mitigation effort can minimize the impact of the earthquakes that may be repeated in the future.

Abstract

On Friday of January 15, 2021 at 19:23 local time, the Mamuju area and its surroundings were hit by a destructive earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 Mw (moment magnitude) which resulted disaster, which are : 105 people died (95 people in Mamuju Regency and 10 people in Majene Regency), 3,369 people were injured, about 3,750 buildings were damaged in Mamuju Regency and 4,172 buildings were damaged in Majene Regency. In addition, there are present of collateral hazard include ground crack, liquefaction and landslide. The maximum of earthquake intensity scale occurred in the Mamuju area of VII MMI (Modified Mercally Intensity). Seventeen months later, on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 12:32:36 local time, the Mamuju area and its surroundings were again hit by a destructive earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 Mw. This earthquake also resulted disaster, which are : 17 people were injured, many buildings and 70 houses were damaged in Mamuju Regency. The earthquake intensity scale of V MMI. The two destructive earthquakes event give lessons learn of the importance for earthquake mitigation efforts. The results of field observations show that earthquake mitigation efforts have not been optimal in the West Sulawesi area. The fact that people still panicked during the earthquake and the amount of damage to buildings. Earthquake mitigation efforts through structural and non-structural mitigation must be increased in the West Sulawesi area to reduce the risk if an earthquake repeat in the future.
