Abstract

Maintaining children's dental and oral health from an early age is an important practice for parents to implement, serving as role models for their children to develop awareness about dental hygiene. Parental parenting patterns can be carried out by educating and guiding children on how to maintain their dental health and encouraging them to incorporate dental care into their daily routines.This study used a descriptive survey method with a sample of 32 participants. The purpose of this research is to determine the parenting patterns regarding dental health maintenance in relation to first molar dental caries among Grade II students of SD Negeri 106146 Muliorejo, Medan Sunggal District.The results showed that the level of parental parenting regarding dental and oral health related to first molar dental caries among the Grade II students of SD Negeri 106146 Muliorejo, Medan Sunggal District was in the "good" category for 19 participants (59.4%), while 13 participants (40.6%) were in the "moderate" category, and none were in the "poor" category. The number of permanent first molar teeth affected by caries was 54 teeth, representing 42.1%, while 74 teeth, or 57.9%, were not affected by caries.The conclusion of this study is that the parenting pattern is generally good; however, the incidence of caries remains high. Parental involvement plays a crucial role in enabling children to maintain good dental health.

Abstract

Tuak is a typical drink of Batak Toba society made from Nira which is fermented with raru, yeast, a kind of bark of tree.Erosion of teeth is defined as the loss of the hard tissue of the teeth as a result of chemical processes that does not involve bacteria. This research method of this study is analytic method with cross sectional study design, the sample of this study is 60 people of Tambunan Lumban Gaol of Toba Samosir District. The samples were taken by using purposive sampling technique. The collection of the data was done by direct examination and questionnaire filled out by the respondents. Data analysis was processed by statistical test using chi-square. This study showed that the weekly frequency of consuming tuak and the duration of drinking tuak had a significant effect on tooth erosion that can be seen from the data of p = 0,0001 and p = 0,002, there were 30 respondents (50%) had severe dental erosion, 13 respondents (21.6%) had moderate dental erosion, 12 respondents (20%) had mild dental erosion 5 respondents (8.3%) had healthy dental erosion. The result of chi-square test shows that the null hypothesis (HO)is tuak and the duration of consuming tuak towards the erosion of teeth in Tambunan Gaol Community of Toba Samosir District. This study concluded that the weekly frequency of drinking of tuak and the duration of consuming tuak gives effects to the dental erosion.

Abstract

Dental health is important for individuals, including children. Childhood is a very important time to maintain healthy teeth. The condition of the milk teeth (deciduous) really determines the condition of the replacement teeth, therefore it is very important to maintain dental health at this time. Dental health education using the truth or dare game media can have an impact on increasing students' knowledge, attitudes and actions to maintain the health of their teeth and mouth. The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of dental health education using the truth or dare game on the level of toothbrushing skills in elementary school students. The type of research carried out was descriptive analytical research using the quasi-experimental method which was carried out at SD Negeri 106166 Marindal II, Patumbak Deli Serdang District. This research will be carried out from June to October 2023 with a sample size of 30 people. The results of this research, the average level of tooth brushing skill before being given dental health education using the truth or dare game to students was 12.3 and the average after being given dental health education using the truth or dare game was 15.8. There is the effectiveness of dental health education using the truth or dare game on the level of tooth brushing skills among students at SD Negeri 106166 Marindal II, Patumbak Deli Serdang District in 2023 with a p-value of 0.000<0.05. It is hoped that this research can increase students' insight and knowledge about toothbrushing skills.

Abstract

Dental and oral health is very important to maintain, because teeth and gums that are not cared can cause pain, chewing disorders and can even interfere with other part of body health. Increasing knowledge of dental and oral health can be achieved through dissemination using the story and demonstration method where respondents will more easily understand what is conveyed, besides that respondents will also be more impressed because they see and are directly involved when invited to demonstrate an activity. This research is a descriptive study, xamining 32 grade IV students at Kemala Bhayangkari 1 Elementary School, Medan as samples, and aiming to determine the level of students' knowledge about dental and oral health through dissemination using story and demonstration methods. Student knowledge data were collected through questionnaires. The results showed that the level of knowledge of students about dental and oral health before dissemination was 7 people (21.8%) in good criteria, 23 people (71.8%) in medium criteria, and 2 people (6.25%) in poor criteria; while after the dissemination, 32 people (100%) had a good level of knowledge. The conclusion from this study is that the dissemination of oral health through storytelling and demonstration methods can increase students' interest and understanding of oral health. It is important to carry out promotive actions for dental and oral health through the School Dental Health Efforts (UKGS) program in collaboration with the Public Health Center.
