Abstract

It has been reported that depth of cure of composite resin can beachieved by prolonged light curing but causing temperature rise that could harmthe pulp and resulted uncomfortable condition to patient. Objectives: To evaluatethe effect of light-emitting-diode (LED) light curing unit on the temperature rise,depth of cure and microhardness of nanohybrid composite resin. Materials andMethods: Sixty specimens of nanohybrid composite resin (Tetric N Ceram,Ivoclar-Vivadent, Lichtenstein) with diameter of 5 mm, thickness of 5 mm weredivided into 3 groups: Group I (n=20) were light-cured for 15 seconds, Group II(n=20) for 20 seconds, Group III (n=20) for 40 seconds using LED light curingunit (Hilux/Ledmax, Japan). The temperature rise was measured using digitalthermometer at initial time to the highest temperature peak. The depth of cure wasmeasured by scraping method. Microhardness was determined using VickersMicrohardness Tester at each 1 mm depth of the composite resin. Data wereanalyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: There weresignificant differences on temperature rise, depth of cure and hardness ofnanohybrid composite resin at each 1 mm depth after light exposure time of 15,20, and 40 seconds. The highest depth of cure was achieved after curing for 40seconds but the highest microhardness was achieved after curing for 20 seconds at1 mm from the top of specimens. Conclusion: Exposure time of 20 secondsproduced low temperature rise, depth of cure and the highest VHN than the otherexposure time.

Abstract

Dementia is a neurodegenerative syndrome caused by chronic and progressive disorders accompanied by a decline in brain function that affects emotions, memory, decision-making, behavior, and other brain functions, which disrupt daily activities. The increasing life expectancy in Indonesia may lead to more people experiencing dementia. Recent research reports that poor oral health, such as periodontitis and tooth loss, are linked to dementia. The elderly population tends to have worse dental and oral health compared to other age groups because most of them lack awareness of maintaining dental health due to a lack of education. Dementia is currently medically incurable, making prevention efforts essential. Poco-poco exercises involve movements similar to brain exercises and can help prevent dementia. The pandemic has led to reduced activity levels and fewer visits to dentists among the elderly. The objective is to prevent and slow down dementia, especially Alzheimer's dementia. There were 62 participants in the activity, and the material was presented in the form of PowerPoint and video. The implementation of dental health education and poco-poco exercise training proved to be effective, as there was an increase in the elderly's knowledge, shown by statistically significant differences and an increase in median values between pre-test and post-test results for the participants.

Abstract

Periodontitis is one of the most common periodontal diseases worldwide and has a high prevalence among the elderly. This disease is caused by microorganisms in dental plaque, which lead to inflammation and damage to the supporting tissues of the teeth. In Indonesia, the prevalence of periodontitis among the elderly reaches 66%, higher than in other age groups. The elderly are more susceptible to periodontitis due to a decline in immune system function, systemic diseases such as diabetes, and suboptimal oral hygiene. This condition is exacerbated by dry mouth due to medication use, such as xerostomia. The main manifestations of periodontitis in the elderly include gingival inflammation, formation of periodontal pockets, alveolar bone loss, and tooth mobility. Periodontitis significantly impacts the quality of life of the elderly, including tooth loss, which affects their ability to chew, eating patterns, and speech. Additionally, periodontitis is associated with increased systemic inflammation, which can affect overall health conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, nutritional status, and physical function.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to improve knowledge and behavior regarding oral health and the impact of poor habits among children and parents at TK Al Hidayah 2 Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. The initiative addressed oral health probems and parental anxiety about dental visits, which can negatively affect children's oral health and aesthetics. The intervention utilized a combination of interactive education, visual aids, live demonstrations, role play, parenting classes, and digital technology—including QR codes for attendance and evaluation—to enhance engagement and learning outcomes. The program involved 80 students, 11 teachers, and 40 parents, with activities conducted on May 7, 2025. Pre- and post-intervention assessments using a 15-item questionnaire revealed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge, with average correct answers rising from 8.6 to 12.6 out of 15. The use of digital tools facilitated efficient attendance tracking and evaluation, improving accuracy and participation. The results demonstrate that a comprehensive, technology-supported educational approach can effectively raise awareness and promote better oral health practices among young children and their caregivers. This model may serve as a reference for similar community-based health education initiatives in early childhood settings.

Abstract

Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that involves the transfer of bone cells from a donor to a recipient to replace bone that has been damaged by using material that can help bone regenerate. The material must be able to act as a scaffold for bone regeneration such as bone graft. The bone graft will be analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) due to its sensitivity and accuracy in quantifying ions at low concentrations, making an ideal technique to analyze the solubility of these biomaterials under physiological conditions. The purpose of this article is to provide information about the calcium ion concentration of bone graft material that can act as a scaffold in stimulating the healing process of bone and bone defects.
