Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on Students' Critical Thinking Skills and Metacognitive Skills on Respiratory System Material in Grade XI. This study uses a Quasi Experimental Design method with a Pretest-Posttest group design. The sampling technique uses Purposive Sampling. The research sample consists of two classes, namely class XI-4 which uses the PBL model and class XI-5 which uses direct instruction learning, each class consisting of 36 students. The instruments in this study are multiple-choice tests of students' critical thinking skills consisting of 30 questions and a questionnaire of students' metacognitive skills consisting of 30 statements. Data were analyzed using prerequisite tests and t-tests (independent sample t-tests). Based on the results of data analysis, there is a significant effect (sig (2-tailed)) <0.05 where 0.000 <0.05 on students' critical thinking skills and metacognitive skills in the experimental class. Based on the results of the hypothesis test, it was found that there was an influence of the PBL model on students' critical thinking skills and metacognitive abilities in the respiratory system material of class XI SMA Negeri 3 Tebing Tinggi.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Two Stay Two Stay (TSTS), Think Pair Share (TPS), and Conventional cooperative learning models in improving students' social skills in human reproduction. This study is quantitative in nature and quasi-experimental in design. The research design is a Posttest-Only Control Group Design. The population in this study was 156 students in grade IX MTsN 3 Padangawas, and the sample in this study was 78 people. Sampling was conducted using cluster random sampling, and the research sample consisted of 3 classes, namely TSTS, TPS, and Conventional classes. The data collection technique in this study used a questionnaire instrument. Data analysis used the Kruskal Wallis test. The results of the data analysis showed that the Asymp sig value was 0.000, indicating that there was a significant effect between the groups using the TSTS, TPS, and control (conventional learning) models on students' social skills. The mean rank of the TPS group was 51.06, followed by the TSTS group at 48.48, and the Conventional group at 18.96. This indicates that the TPS learning model has the most effective social skills value compared to the TSTS and Conventional groups.

Abstract

The limited relevance of science learning and the dominance of conventional teaching methods have led to low creative thinking skills among students. This study aims to develop an Ethno-STEM-based module integrated with creative thinking skills on the topic of elements, compounds, and mixtures. The development model used is the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate), limited to expert validation, teacher and student responses. The module integrates local wisdom and cultural contexts with STEM learning stages, fostering fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The validation results show that the module meets the "very valid" criteria from material experts (Aiken’s V = 0.85), learning experts (0.84), media experts (0.81), and test instrument validators (0.83). Science teachers also rated the module very valid (0.89). Student responses reached an average of 89%, categorized as “very practical,” indicating that the module is attractive, easy to understand, culturally relevant, and effective in stimulating creative thinking. Thus, the developed Ethno-STEM module is highly feasible, practical, and relevant as an alternative teaching material in supporting the Independent Curriculum and enhancing students’ creative thinking.

Abstract

Utilizing local potential as a learning resource can create more contextual and meaningful learning. This study aims to develop a non-textbook on invertebrate Animalia diversity in Pandaratan Beach, Central Tapanuli based on contextual validity that is valid, practical, and effective in improving students' cognitive learning outcomes. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the Four-D (4-D) model which includes define, design, develop, and disseminate. The research subjects consisted of expert validators, biology teachers, and grade X students of SMA Negeri 1 Tukka. Data were collected through validation sheets, response questionnaires, and cognitive learning outcome tests. The results showed that there were 31 invertebrate Animalia species used as the basis for developing non-textbooks. The validation results showed very high feasibility from material experts (95.3%), learning design experts (94.01%), and graphic design experts (84.51%). The teacher's response obtained 99.47% with a very good category, and the student's response was also very good. The effectiveness test showed an N-Gain value of 0.71 (high category), while the t-test obtained a significance of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This indicates that the use of contextual-based non-textbooks has a significant effect on improving students' cognitive learning outcomes. Thus, the developed product is declared valid, practical, and effective as a learning resource for Animalia.
