Abstract

Riau Islands Province is one of the gateways for foreign tourists to enter Indonesia. The current condition of the Covid-19 pandemic has made the tourism sector in the Riau Islands Province experience a slump. On the other hand, economic growth was also affected, where conditions were lower than national economic growth. Thus, this study was conducted to determine whether there is a relationship between economic growth and the tourism sector in the Riau Islands Province. The variables used are the year-on-year growth of Gross Regional Domestic Product to represent indicators of economic growth (EKO); the number of foreign tourists visiting (WISMAN), the average occupancy rate of five-star hotel rooms (TPK) and the realization value of foreign investment in the hotel and restaurant sector (INVEST), which represent indicators of the tourism sector. This study applies descriptive analysis (graphics of time series data) and inferential (Vector Error Correction Model). The results showed that there was no Granger causality relationship between economic growth and the tourism sector, however, when viewed based on the IRF graphs and FEVD, it showed that there was a relationship between the response of economic growth to shocks that occurred in the tourism sector. The economic growth of the Riau Islands Province will respond to shocks that occur in the tourism sector in a relatively short time (only up to the 20th to 25th period). This means that the government must continue to provide stimulus in the tourism sector continuously in a not too long period of time, so that economic growth can continue to move as expected.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on the condition of the world economy, including Indonesia. Based on Statistics Indonesia data, the Indonesian economy is dominated by the economy of Java Island, which reached 58.75% in 2020. Thus, this study aims to know the determinants of economic growth on Java Island during the Covid-19 pandemic. The method used in this study is a descriptive statistical method, in the form of graphical display and statistical inferential method using panel data regression modeling. The findings of this study are that of the three independent variables used, only one independent variable affects the economic growth of Java Island during the Covid-19 pandemic, namely the room occupancy rate of the star hotel. There is an increase in the room occupancy rate in star hotels by 1%, which it will increase the economic growth of Java Island by 0.2359%. Thus, it was concluded that the tourism sector contributed positively to the economic growth of Java Island during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, even though the other two independent variables are not significant, the government still has the optimize these two variables

Abstract

The Family Planning Program (KB) held by the Indonesian government has different levels of achievement between regions. Bintan Regency is the regency with the highest percentage of ever-married women aged 15-49 years who have never used contraception in the Riau Islands Province. So, this study aims to determine the characteristics of women aged 15-49 years and their effects. The inferential analysis method used is binary logistik regression analysis. The findings of this study are women aged 15-49 years in Bintan Regency whose age at first marriage is 21 years and over, have a senior high school/equivalent education and college education, does not work, does not use the internet and does not have health insurance, has a tendency not to use contraception. Meanwhile, women who live in rural areas, have a junior high school/equivalent education and are in non-poor households tend to use contraception. The government must optimize the socialization of the family planning program and make policies, which have a direct or indirect impact on women’s decisions to participate in the family planning program.
