Abstract

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations was founded with the aim of being a shelter for countries in Southeast Asian to build progress and achieve prosperity. The high unemployment rate is still one of the main macroeconomic problems, including in the ASEAN-5 region (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore) which are the founders of ASEAN. Economic growth in ASEAN countries is reported to be high for the next few years (DHL, 2020). An increase in output will require labor so this is expected to affect the unemployment rate. The purpose of this study was to analyzethe relationship between changes in the unemployment rate and economic growth by using panel data regression method. The data used is data on changes in unemployment rate and economic growth in 2006-2019 in ASEAN-5. The result of the analysis show that economic growth has a negative effect on changes in the unemployment rate. Therefore, the potential for high economic growth must be realized by promoting a labor-intensive economic sector sothat the problem of unemployment can be overcome.

Abstract

Industrialization is considered as a strategy for developing countries to improve their economy. However, industrial activities produce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that have a negative impact on the environment. If the environment is damaged due to industrial activity, it will also affect the industrial sector because of the depletion of natural resources. This study aims to analyze the simultaneous relationship between GHG emissions and industrialization in Indonesia for 1990-2019. The method used in this study is simultaneous equations model. The result of this study indicates that there is a simultaneous relationship between GHG emissions and industrialization. FDI has a positive effect on GHG emissions, while financial development, economic growth, and industrialization have a negative effect on GHG emissions. Human capital and international trade have a positive effect on industrialization while GHG emissions have a negative effect. Economic growth can be a solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions if environmental conditions are considered.

Abstract

Tourism has the potential to become a mainstay sector in increasing the economy, so the government settings 10 priority destinations in Indonesia. Positive tourism development is marked by increased visitor, but if we don't pay attention to the environment quality index (IKLH), it will have a negative impact on human survival. Java Island receives the largest foreign investment compared to outside Java Island, so it’s suspected has greater potential of environmental damage. This study to know the effect of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and tourism on the IKLH in priority destinations on Java Island in 2011-2021 using the panel data regression. The result shows that GRDP and average length of stay (RLM) have a positive significant effect on IKLH, because Indonesia has implemented green hotels and ecotourism. Meanwhile, the occupancy rate (TPK) has a significant negative effect on IKLH, because a high TPK means more tourists and energy consumption.
