Abstract

This study discusses the water quality of Tukad Mati which occupies the area of Badung Regency in the upstream and downstream parts that stretch from North Kuta to South Kuta while the middle part crosses Denpasar City in terms of physical, chemical, and biological parameters and classifies the water quality of Tukad Mati with the Pollution Index method. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of Tukad Mati water in terms of several parameters such as temperature, dissolved residue, suspended solids, pH, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), phosphate, fecal coliform, and total coliform. The results of the measurement of water samples are compared with environmental quality standards and environmental damage standard criteria based on Bali Governor Regulation No. 16 of 2016. The results of the analysis show that there are several parameters whose values exceed the threshold of class II water quality standards, namely TSS, BOD, and phosphate. The result of the Tukad Mati Pollution Index value in the upstream area has a value of 4.86 in the middle has a value of 3.02 and downstream has a value of 3.48 which is categorized as lightly polluted.

Abstract

Tukad Mati is a river that functions as a drainage channel and a water source for rice fields. Several embankments that have been built serve as inspection roads along the Tukad Mati cliffs. In measuring water quality parameters, it is necessary to carry out an integrated approach so that the formulation of pollution control strategies can be carried out properly. based on the Decree of the Minister of the Environment No. 115 of 2003 The status of water quality shows the level of quality condition of the source water by comparing the quality standards that have been set.The results of the study showed that the status of the water quality of the upstream and downstream parts of the dead water was lightly polluted. so that it is expected to carry out river management and empowerment by the government and the community around Tukad Mati.

Abstract

Sustainable waste management has become a highly strategic issue in Gianyar Regency, Bali, in line with the increasing volume of waste generation and the limited capacity of final disposal sites. This study aims to analyze the existing conditions and performance of waste management at the Temesi landfill based on technical, environmental, economic, and social aspects. The method employed is a descriptive-quantitative approach, involving field observations, interviews with site managers, documentation of operational data from January to May 2025, and mass balance analysis. The results indicate that the total waste generation reached 30,964 tons, with an average of 213.54 tons per day, predominantly composed of organic waste. Approximately 50.16% of the waste is processed into compost, 11.08% is recycled, and 38.76% remains as residual waste disposed of in the landfill. The material recovery rate has reached 61%, indicating that the system is moving toward the implementation of circular economy principles. Economically, the waste bank operation generates a surplus of IDR 149,933,210. However, environmental aspects remain a major challenge, particularly due to the suboptimal leachate treatment system, which poses a potential risk of environmental pollution. Furthermore, improvements in technological capacity and community participation are required to support more sustainable waste management.
