Abstract

The purpose is to obtain facts and experiences that occur to students when using English private tutoring in their learning system which is described in detail using a descriptive method through perceptions from students at SMP Xaverius 1 Bandar Lampung. Private tutoring is needed for students to get more learning in the lack condition of Covid-19 and can give more benefits to improving their skill and their progress. This journal used the qualitative method. To collect the data used questionnaires and interviews. The results of this study indicate that there are several types of perceptions given by students based on what happens when using English private tutoring and are divided into four different categories in the grouping of student perceptions, comparison between school & tutoring, financial aspects, learning model system, and students' academic & quality level. The results showed positive perceptions of students and tutors.

Abstract

Abstract: The phenomenon of Instagram users arising in Indonesia who shares about learning English independently, specifically learning vocabularies in this case Instagram caption, underlies this research to be studied profoundly. The objectives of the research were (1) to gain an overall picture of students’ vocabulary mastery in learning vocabulary through Instagram captions, (2) to find out students’ interest in learning vocabulary through Instagram. This journal used a mix-method. To collect the data used, vocabulary tests and interviews. The result showed that there was a statically significant difference between the students taught with the Instagram caption and the original way approach. It is revealed from the t-value, which is higher than the t-table with a significance level of less than 0.05. the result of the data, the researcher found the things that make students' interest in learning vocabulary through the Instagram captions. The data findings show that the majority of students are interested in learning vocabulary through Instagram because it was effective for them.Keywords: Instagram, Social Media, Caption, Vocabulary, Students’ interest.

Abstract

The process of developing listening skills involves capturing the speaker's words, grasping their intended message, and encompassing the roles of both speaker and listener, along with the auditory aspect. This study aims to investigate how students perceive the use of podcasts for enhancing listening skills among 3rd semester students in the English Department of Universitas Bandar Lampung. Employing qualitative methods, the research was conducted with a participant group of 34 students from the university's English Department. Data collection encompassed surveys and interviews involving 5 students. The collected data was analyzed by merging insights from both the surveys and interviews. The findings demonstrate noticeable enhancements in students' listening skills through the integration of podcasts as a learning medium. Consequently, students' viewpoints regarding podcast utilization for improving listening skills exhibited advancements in effectiveness and distinctiveness. Students expressed appreciation for the captivating and informative nature of this learning medium.
