Abstract

Tarekat or Sufi order is identical to various spiritual activities, often considered far from worldly life. This identification places Sufism as merely related to mystical and ascetic activities. This study intends to explain how the Al-Idrisiyah tarekat in Indonesia has primary concern on social and economic dimensions in all of their various empowerment programs in the community. The research uses qualitative methods, with data collection techniques of observation and documentation of tarekat activities on mixed social media. The study results show that the practice of the socio-economic dimension is an implementation of their belief that a true Sufi is a Sufi who works and empowers others. Their socio-economic activities have developed to resemble philanthropic activities and can help several community groups affected by the pandemic in 2020-2021.Tarekat atau sufi sering diidentikkan dengan kegiatan spiritual, yang dianggap menjauhi kehidupan duniawi. Identifikasi tersebut menyebabkan tasawuf dianggap dekat dengan hal-hal yang bersifat kebatinan dan asketik.  Penelitian ini bermaksud untuk menjelaskan bagaimana Tarekat Al-Idrisiyah di Indonesia memiliki dimensi sosial dan ekonomi yang diterapkan dalam berbagai program pemberdayaan mereka di masyarakat. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi dan dokumentasi kegiatan-kegiatan tarekat di berbagai sosial media. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa praktik dimensi sosial-ekonomi tersebut merupakan implementasi dari keyakinan mereka bahwa seorang sufi yang benar adalah sufi yang bekerja dan memberdayakan manusia lainnya yang lemah. Kegiatan sosial-ekonomi mereka tersebut berkembang menyerupaikan aktivitas filantropi dan mampu membantu beberapa kelompok masyarakat yang terdampak pandemi di tahun 2020-2021.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to challenge the conventional wisdom that Sufism solely focuses on the afterlife by shedding light on the participation of Sufis in both religious and secular affairs. The qualitative descriptive research method has been employed to aptly illustrate the typology of modern-day Sufism, primarily within social and economic contexts. The results of the study indicate that Tarekat Al-Idrisiyyah, located in Cisayong, Tasikmalaya Regency, has established 18 business units across various industries, including finance and animal husbandry, with a total economic asset worth approximately IDR 25 billion. In addition, Tarekat Shiddiqiyyah has also established nonprofit business institutions for both its members and the local community, such as Yusro Alfamart, a collaboration between the Shiddiqiyah Order and PT. Sumber Alfalia Trijaya (Sampoerna Group).

Abstract

Tarekat is often regarded as the decline of Islam. With his teachings zuhud, poor, and tawakal are considered activities of the tarekat from worldly life so that the life they live is fatalistic and is like the world. Some of the interesting phenomena of the Tarekat Shiddiqiyah can be seen from the economic behavior of its adherents, especially in developing business units that can support the increasingly rapid development of the tarekat in Indonesia. Therefore, the author is very interested in researching the tarekat. To answer that, the writer formulates the problem: how is business development in the Tarekat Shiddiqiyah? In conducting the research, the author uses qualitative research methods with a phenomenological approach. The selection of organizations is based on the Tarekat Shiddiqiyah in Indonesia as the object of research on phenomena and information on groups with their characteristics or characteristics relevant to the problem to be studied, namely the business of the tarekat Shiddiqiyah. The results of this study indicate that this phenomenon can be reached because this tarekat has its uniqueness, especially from the aspect of its teachings and views on world life, which are different from other tarekat with his teachings, his work in education, society, politics, and economics.
