Abstract

Every railway infrastructure must be inspected to determine its condition and function, including railroad bridge. The current inspection method is still carried out manually, namely by directly inspecting the components of the railway infrastructure, of course, this will make the inspection time long. Inspection of bridge components in locations that are difficult to reach can use tools such as Unmanned Aerial vehicles (UAV) or Drones. This study aims at bridge components, damaged bridge components and the type of damage that occurs on Welded Through Truss (WTT) bridges. Video results obtained from drones were analyzed based on PM 31/2011 and PM 32/2011. The results of the analysis found that the damage that occurred was on the stringer, floor beam and top lateral bracing with the type of damage, namely corrosion/rust that occurred in all spans of the bridge. The underside of the bridge is still in good condition.

Abstract

Level crossings are critical points in transport systems because they create direct conflicts between railway and road traffic, especially when technical safety requirements are not fulfilled. This study evaluates the condition of level crossing JPL 193 KM 182+055 between Haurpugur and Cicalengka Stations, focusing on crossing geometry, traffic loading, and the need for infrastructure upgrading. The study employed a descriptive quantitative approach through field observation, elevation measurement, skilu analysis, and traffic load calculations using Passing Tonnage for railway traffic and Equivalent Single Axle Load (ESAL) for road traffic. The results show that the elevation deviation between the road surface and rail head reached 60–70 mm, exceeding the allowable tolerance, while skilu values remained within acceptable limits. Railway traffic load reached 116,261,318 tons/year and was classified as railway class II, while road traffic loading reached 1,735,258 ESAL. The crossing also failed to comply with several key requirements for maintaining an at-grade crossing, including train speed, headway, road class, and crossing surface tolerance. Based on these findings, conversion into a grade-separated crossing is recommended through the construction of a flyover with a concrete girder bridge system and bore pile foundation. This study provides a technical basis for decision-making to improve transport safety and infrastructure performance at high-risk crossings.

Abstract

Level crossings are recognized as high-risk locations for traffic accidents and therefore require focused attention, particularly in the context of early preventive measures. This community service program aimed to enhance public awareness of compliance with traffic regulations at level crossings and to improve road users’ vigilance as a preventive effort to reduce accident risk at the JPL 210 level crossing in Bojonegoro. The program was implemented through a safety awareness campaign involving the distribution of visual educational materials in the form of leaflets and the installation of safety message banners in the vicinity of the crossing. The results indicate that the safety campaign utilizing leaflets and banners was effective in attracting the attention of road users. Road users demonstrated positive responses, as evidenced by their willingness to receive and read the leaflets, as well as increased caution when approaching and crossing the railway line. Based on observational data from 30 road users collected before and after the implementation of the safety campaign at the JPL 210 level crossing, a significant improvement in compliance levels was observed. The average compliance rate increased from 55.71% prior to the safety campaign to 76.18% following its implementation.
