Abstract

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of dysmenorrhea cases in 2020 was 1,769,425 individuals, with 90% being female. The prevalence of dysmenorrhea in Indonesia is 54.89% for primary dysmenorrhea and 9.36% for secondary dysmenorrhea. In DKI Jakarta, the prevalence of primary dysmenorrhea is 87.5%. Menstrual pain, also known as dysmenorrhea, occurs due to dysrhythmic contractions of the myometrium. The pain often interferes with daily activities, making its impact on adolescent girls particularly significant. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of green coconut water and effleurage massage on reducing the intensity of primary dysmenorrhea pain in adolescent girls at Dewi Medika Primary Clinic in 2025. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The sample consisted of two respondents experiencing primary dysmenorrhea, comparing one who received green coconut water and the other who received effleurage massage. The study was conducted in February 2025. The results showed a reduction in pain intensity in adolescents who experienced primary dysmenorrhea after receiving either green coconut water or effleurage massage. The decrease in pain intensity was more effective and occurred more quickly in the adolescent who received the effleurage massage compared to the one who received green coconut water.

Abstract

Emesis gravidarum refers to early pregnancy symptoms of nausea accompanied by vomiting. These symptoms typically appear six weeks after the first day of the last menstrual period and last for approximately ten weeks, though in some cases, they may persist into the second and third trimesters. Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy can lead to a depletion of bodily electrolytes, resulting in hemoconcentration that slows blood circulation; it also causes reduced appetite affecting fetal growth and development as well as nutritional deficiencies, dehydration, weakness, and weight loss. To prevent progression to hyperemesis, therapeutic interventions are needed to alleviate emesis gravidarum in pregnant women. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of administering ginger decoction and lemon aromatherapy in reducing emesis gravidarum at the Sobang Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in 2025. A qualitative method using a case study approach was employed. The study involved pregnant women in their first trimester experiencing emesis gravidarum. The sample consisted of 10 individuals: five received an intervention of warm ginger drinks, and five received lemon aromatherapy. The study was conducted at the Sobang Community Health Center in August 2025. Univariate analysis was used to describe the midwifery care provided and to assess the effectiveness of the warm ginger drink and lemon aromatherapy interventions in reducing emesis gravidarum. Observations indicated that lemon aromatherapy oil was more effective in reducing nausea and vomiting in pregnant women. It is recommended that pregnant women in their first trimester experiencing nausea and vomiting adopt interventions such as warm ginger drinks or lemon aromatherapy to alleviate these symptoms.
