Abstract

Tutur sapa di dalam bahasa Inggris-Amerika masih meninggalkan kerumpangan di dalam penggunaannya. Atas dasar itu, muncul masalah di dalam penggunaannya: (1) kategori dan bentuk tutur sapa apa yang terdapat di dalam novel dan (2) bagaimana penggunaannya di dalam aspek sosiolinguistis, pragmatis, dan psikologis yang harus diselidiki untuk menemukan jawabannya. Teori yang digunakan adalah Biber et al. (1999); Wardhaugh (2000), dan Holmes (2001). Dari penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa (1) secara sosiolinguistis tutur sapa digunakan berdasarkan hubungan sosial, status sosial, situasi resmi dan takresmi; (2) secara pragmatis tutur sapa terjadi karena aspek kesantunan dan tindak ilokusi; dan (3) secara psikologis tutur sapa digunakan menurut keadaan emosional penyapa (P1). Di dalam penelitian ini ditemukan 23 kategori tutur sapa dalam bahasa Inggris-Amerika (cf. Biber et al. 1999).American English address forms still remain the recess in their uses. On the basis of this, there are two questions (1) what categories and kinds of address forms occur in novel and (2) how are they used in sociolinguistic, pragmatic, and phsycological aspects - that must be investigated to find out the answers. The theories used in this study are Biber et al. (1999); Wardhaugh (2000), and Holmes (2001). The findings of this study are (1) in sociolinguistic aspects, the address forms are used on the basis of social relationship, social status, formal and informal situations; (2) in pragmatic aspects they occur because of politeness and illocutionary acts; and (3) in phsycological aspects they are used according to emotional situations of P1.ln this study it is found that there are 23 categories of American-English address forms (cf. Biber et al. 1999).Key words: address form, sociolinguistic, pragmatic, phsychology, social status, social relationship, formal situation, informal situation, emotional situation
