Abstract

The high incidence of three-phase asynchronous motors (TAM) in global energy consumption and its influence on the operation of electrical systems makes it necessary to develop models that allow their analysis effectively. Based on this, this paper presents a universal model of TAM based on the relationship between the active and reactive power of the TAM and the deviation of voltage and frequency. It can be applied to any general-purpose TAM and is very useful when representing these motors in electrical power system studies. The model parameters were obtained from a statistical analysis performed on 70 TAM of different classifications. The results are validated by comparing them with those obtained from the solution of the equivalent circuit, demonstrating its validity by less than 6% errors.

Abstract

The copper rotor induction motor (CURIM) was recently introduced because it has lower rotor fusion losses than the aluminum rotor (ALRIM). Furthermore, with CURIM, it is easier to reach IE4 and IE5 efficiency levels. The CURIM is advantageous for compact motors, escalators, and electric vehicle applications. However, CURIMs present slip, power factor, temperature increase, and torque decrease problems that must be analyzed. This study compared the economic feasibility of using CURIM with ALRIM by applying discount techniques. A case study was carried out in a sugar company with a cyclical operation, where 5.5 kW motors will be installed in the intermediate conductors of the mill's feeders. The facility works three shifts between 3 and 6 months. The cost increase (DCI) of CURIM over ALRIM was between 1.1 and 1.5 times. With 3,600 h/year and 4,000 h/year of operation, the DCI greater than 10%, it was found that the payback is more than four years, and the net present value (NPV) grows linearly.

Abstract

This paper analyzes trends in electrical power quality (PQ) in industrial systems through a bibliometric approach to identify key topics, prominent authors, and patterns of international collaboration that may guide future research. PQ disturbances can significantly affect operational continuity, energy efficiency, and equipment lifespan in industrial electrical systems (IES), making it essential to map the research landscape to support technological and strategic responses. The study reviews 103 articles from the Scopus database for the period 2016–2024, applying relevance and currency criteria. VOSviewer® was used to conduct the analysis, employing keyword co-occurrence networks and bibliographic coupling to visualize thematic, collaborative, and citation relationships. Results indicate a strong research focus on harmonic distortion, voltage disturbances, and artificial intelligence applications for diagnosis and mitigation. India leads in scientific production, while IEEE Access is the most influential source. Despite growing interest, the study identifies limited international collaboration and thematic fragmentation, which may hinder comprehensive solutions. The findings highlight the need to expand collaboration networks, standardize methodologies, and integrate underexplored topics into mainstream PQ studies, strengthening the ability of industrial systems to address emerging challenges and improve performance, resilience, and reliability.
