Abstract

English is one of the most difficult subjects in Indonesia. Almost all students in Indonesia are afraid to speak English. Therefore, speaking is one of the important competencies that must e mastered by students at school. There are various methods that can be used for teaching speaking, one of which is the oral drill method. Several previous studies stated the oral drill method was effectively used to improve speaking skills. The researcher looked at the use of the oral drill method in teaching speaking by using a qualitative descriptive research design. The researcher was conducted on eighth grade excellent class of MTs Al-Amiriyyah in the academic year 2020/2021. The researcher conducted research instruments by classroom observation, Interviews, and Documentation. The result of the analysis is as follows: 1) the students' ability in speaking English lacking before using the oral drill method 2) the students are afraid to speak English because they lack vocabulary and are unconfident speaking English. 3) There are changes in students after using the oral drill method. They are more active in participating in learning English so it can be concluded that the teaching method using the oral drill is effective in improving speaking skills.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui penggunaan strategi menyanyikan lagu dalam mengajarkan keterampilan berbicara pada Program Intensif UPT P2B IAI Darussalam tepatnya di kelas TBIN Institut Islam semester I Darussalam. Ketika peneliti melakukan penelitian awal, sebagian besar siswa mengalami masalah dalam berkomunikasi menggunakan bahasa Inggris terutama dalam keterampilan berbicara. Latar belakangnya adalah siswa tidak menyukai bahasa Inggris, sehingga membuat siswa tidak mengerti tentang bahasa Inggris, memiliki kosakata yang rendah dan tidak dapat berbicara bahasa Inggris. Sedangkan diwajibkan mengikuti program wajib seluruh mahasiswa baru, yaitu program kelas Bahasa Inggris Intensif yang bertujuan agar mahasiswa dapat berbicara bahasa Inggris ketika berada di kampus IAIDA dan sekitarnya, serta untuk mendapatkan sertifikat kelulusan intensif atas persyaratan mengikuti skripsi. Rumusan masalahnya adalah "Bagaimana penggunaan strategi menyanyi lagu dalam mengajarkan kemampuan berbicara pada program intensif IAI Darussalam khususnya di kelas TBIN? Oleh karena itu, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana menggunakan strategi menyanyi lagu dalam mengajarkan kemampuan berbicara di kelas TBIN UPT P2B IAI Darussalam. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif, pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berbicara siswa meningkat setelah melalui strategi menyanyikan lagu. Para siswa lebih aktif untuk memahami tentang lagu dan kosakata serta semangat untuk berlatih berbicara bahasa Inggris. Itu membuat mereka berpikir jika bahasa Inggris tidak sulit dan mereka dapat berlatih berbicara bahasa Inggris dengan perasaan senang. Kata Kunci: Strategi Menyanyikan Lagu, Keterampilan Berbicara. ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to know the use of singing songs strategy in teaching speaking skill at Intensive Program of UPT P2B IAI Darussalam exactly in TBIN class of first semester Islamic Institute of Darussalam. When the researcher conducted the initial research, most of the students had problems communicating using English, especially in speaking skill. The background is that students dislike English, so that make the students not to an understanding about English, have low vocabulary and cannot speak English. Meanwhile, they are required to participate in the mandatory program for all new students, namely the Intensive English class program which aims so that students can speak English when on the IAIDA campus and surrounding areas, as well as to get an intensive pass certificate for the requirements to follow the thesis. The formulation of the problem is “How is the use of singing songs strategy in teaching speaking skill at intensive program IAI Darussalam especially in TBIN class?” .Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find out how to use the singing songs strategy in teaching speaking skill in TBIN class of UPT P2B IAI Darussalam. This research method uses qualitative descriptive, data collection through interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this study indicate that students’ speaking skill ability increases after being through singing songs strategy. The students were more active to understanding about songs and vocabulary and spirit to practice speaking English. It makes them think if English not too difficult and they can practice to speaking English with feel happy. Keyword: Singing Songs Strategy, Speaking Skill.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze various strategies implemented in this program and their impact on teachers' communication skills. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study method in several schools that have implemented English Morning Activity. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews with teachers, activity observations, and analysis of related documents. The data obtained were analyzed thematically to identify patterns in program implementation and factors that support its success. The results showed that the main strategies in English Morning Activity include English Morning Meetings, Clubs, English of the Day, and the use of the WhatsApp application as a medium for communication and practice. This strategy has proven effective in increasing self-confidence, speaking fluency, and forming more natural English language habits in the school environment. In addition, a technology-based approach provides flexibility for teachers to continue practicing outside of working hours. Overall, this study confirms that the combination of various strategies in English Morning Activity can create a more conducive learning environment, support teacher professional development, and strengthen the culture of speaking English in schools.

Abstract

Program pengabdian ini bertujuan memberdayakan santri di Yayasan Pendidikan Ekonomi dan Sosial Ngajio Mugi Aji, Banyuwangi, melalui peningkatan kompetensi berbicara bahasa Inggris sebagai sarana meningkatkan peluang ekonomi. Program dilaksanakan selama tiga bulan dengan pendekatan partisipatif dan komunikatif, melibatkan 25 santri dalam pelatihan speaking intensif, role-play, gamifikasi, dan pembelajaran kontekstual. Kerangka teori yang digunakan meliputi prinsip Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT), dan teori pemberdayaan berbasis komunitas, yang menekankan integrasi keterampilan hidup dalam pendidikan keagamaan. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dari level CEFR A1 ke A2/B1, peningkatan rasa percaya diri, serta motivasi untuk mengeksplorasi peluang ekonomi seperti pemandu wisata, kerja lepas daring, dan pembuatan konten dakwah digital.
