Abstract

Sebagai bahasa internasioanl seharusnya bahasa Inggris harus bisa dikuasai bagi semua orang. Apalagi bahasa Inggris sering ditemukan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari sehingga mau tidak mau setiap orang harus mampu menggunakan dan mengerti bahasa Inggris. Oleh karena itu perlu adanya sebuah pelatihan berbahasa Inggris guna membantu masyarakat memahami bahasa Inggris. Pelatihan ini dilakukan di desa Taba Anyar, Kabupaten Lebong, Bengkulu guna bertujuan untuk memberi pembelajaran bahasa Inggris terhadap anak-anak yang ada di desa Taba Anyar. Pelatihan dilaksanakan selama tiga bulan terhitung dari November (2021)- Januari (2022). Dalam pelaksanaan pelatihan dilakukan beberapa tahap yakni (1) mengumpulkan anak-anak di desa Taba Anyar, (2) meminta izin kepada orang tua atau wali siswa, (3) memberikan pelatihan pembelajaran (4) praktik berbahasa Inggris dan (5) evaluasi pelatihan. Hasil dari pelatihan ini menunjukkan bahwa anak-anak di desa Taba Anyar sangat antusias mengikuti pelatihan berbahasa Inggris hal ini dibuktikan dari minat dan motivasi belajar mereka yang begitu baik. Kesimpulan pelatihan ini sangat baik untuk dilakukan secara berkelanjutan agar anak-anak mampu dan terus mengasah kemampuan berbahasa Inggris mereka. Peran masyarakat dan pemerintah sangat diperlukan agar pelatihan ini bisa terus berlanjut dikemudian hari.

Abstract

Speaking skill is the most important language skills to support communication, especially in English speaking skills are needed for two-way communication that can be understood by one another. However, there are still many students who are not maximal in carrying out English conversations practice to improving their English speaking skills. Therefore, this study aims to analyze students' problems and difficulties in practicing English conversation in order to improve speaking skills. The method used in this research is qualitative by using a descriptive approach. Data were obtained through direct observation and interviews related to the conditions experienced by students in improving their English speaking skills. After the data has been obtained, the data is analyzed through three stages, namely data reduction, data display and data conclusion. The results showed that students had difficulty practicing English conversations due to a lack of confidence, lack of courage, fear of being wrong, not having enough English vocabulary and not having a supportive environment to practice English conversations. Therefore, it is necessary to have a good learning strategy to encourage students to be able to practice speaking in English.

Abstract

Understanding proverbs in English is one of the materials that must be studied in English literature lessons at school. Proverbs are one of the oldest types of literature that have ever existed, and they are a type of literary work that must be mastered because proverbs themselves have meanings, goals, and values that are very beneficial to students. Through understanding literary material, students can learn valuable lessons in interpreting the meaning of the sentences conveyed. Therefore, this research aims to find out students' opinions on using body gestures to demonstrate and understand the meaning of proverbs in English. The method used in this research is qualitative research through a descriptive approach. The informants in this study were 36 students who took selective English literature subjects. Data were obtained through direct observation of learning activities and interviews to obtain more comprehensive information. After the data is collected, it is analyzed through three stages: data reduction, data display, and data conclusion. The results of the study show that utilizing body gestures in learning proverbs can help people more easily understand the meaning and significance of a proverb. In addition, students are also encouraged to be more active and motivated to be involved in learning activities because the learning situation becomes more enjoyable.

Abstract

Speaking ability is one of the important skills in learning a language. Speaking ability also requires students to be able to produce utterances in the form of speech in the target language. English teachers need to be able to provide fun learning in order to improve students' speaking skills in English. Therefore, this study aims to find out the perspective of English teachers when teaching English through group discussion methods in order to improve the speaking ability of EFL students. The method used in this research is qualitative through a descriptive approach. Data were obtained through field observations when the teacher gave teaching using the group discussion method, then interviews were conducted with two English teachers. Data is analyzed through data reduction, data display, conclusion. The results of the study show that in improving students' speaking skills, the teacher should be able to use learning themes that are appropriate or familiar with everyday habits. In addition, through the group discussion method students can become more confident, brave and can improve their ability to collaborate in solving learning problems.
