Abstract

This study compares four versions of the story of "Putri Pinang Masak" byusing structural analysis. The equation of the four versions of the story are found in the Putri Pinang Masak characterizations and plot used, which is a straightline  (progressive),  while  the  difference  can  be  seen  from  the  theme  andbackground elements. The elements of cultural values found in Jambi society from the fourth version of the story is, the position of women in Jambi, society, ingenuity, and courage. Penelitian ini membandingkan empat cerita “Putri Pinang Masak” denganmenggunakan analisis struktur. Persamaan dari keempat versi itu ditemukan dari penokohan Putri Pinang Masak dan alur yang digunakan, yaitu alur lurus (progresif), sedangkan perbedaan terlihat dari tema dan latar. Unsur nilai-nilai budaya masyarakat Jambi yang ditemukan dari keempat versi cerita yaitu, kedudukan wanita dalam masyarakat Jambi, kecerdikan, dan keberanian.
