Abstract

The research conducted was aimed at  investigating animal farming in Districts of Donggala, Parigi Moutong, and Banggai in Central Sulawesi. There were two subdistricts chosen as sampling sites from each disrict, and one village was chosen to represent each subdistrict. The villages were Malonas village (Damsol Subdistrict) and Sibedi village (Marawola Subdistrict) in Donggala, Parig Mpu village (Parigi Subdistrict) and Lambunu village (Tinombo Subdistrict) in Parigi Moutong, and Sinorang village (Batui Subdistrict) and Bualemo village (Bualemo Subbdistrict) in Banggai. The study sites were selected using a stratified sampling technique and was based on the highest cattle population number. Data were collected from field through a direct interview with respondents, which was aided with quetionnaries. The number of respondents (cattle keeper) interviewed was between 20 – 30% of the total population. The research results indicated that 78.56% of the respondents operated the cattle farms to increase the family income, but in the reality almost all farms was not feasible because of low cattle ownership and limited farmers’ skill in animal husbandry practices. On average, 87.98% of the respondents operated their cattle farms traditionally, 10.17% of them in category of semi intensive system while only 1.85% of them apply an intensive system. This led to a low technical coefficient for each individual variable of the cattle farms.

Abstract

The native plant of mainland Asia, Durian, presents a considerable opportunity to be used as animal feed due to the high by-product production, with almost 70% of every durian fruit being waste. This presents an excellent opportunity to repurpose durian skin and seeds as animal feed. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the impact of durian by-product on the productivity and physiological condition of kacang goats. The research was conducted from September to November 2020 at the Experimental Cage owned by CV. Prima BREED, Palu City, Central Sulawesi Province. The research cages were stage cages, with a size of 2 x 10 m, and one animal was placed in each cage. A total of 18 Peanut goats were divided into 3 treatment levels and 6 replications according to a completely randomized design. The study found that the nutritional intake of durian by-product in the form of rind and seed flour as much as 0.5% in the feed affected the carcass percentage, the amount of red blood cell, hemoglobin level, and hematocrit value but had no effect on body weight gain, dry matter consumption, feed use efficiency, carcass weight, weight and percentage of non-edible carcasses, body temperature, respiration frequency, pulse frequency, and white blood cell count of kacang goats. This indicates that the utilization of 0.5% durian by-product (seeds and rind) in feed did not have a negative effect on the productivity and physiological condition of kacang goats, making it a viable option for animal feed.

Abstract

Salah satu upaya untuk mengurangi dampak kekurangan nutrisi akibat kurangnya pakan sebagai imbas dari pergantian musim adalah pemanfaatan tanaman pisang dimana batang pisang merupakan limbah pertanian yang tidak termanfaatkan di masyarakat. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari - Mei 2020 di Kelurahan Tondo, Kecamatan Mantikulore, Kota Palu, Provinsi Sulawesi Tengah. Ternak yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kambing Kacang betina  (umur ±10 bulan, kisaran bobot badan antara 9,01-12,25 kg)  sebanyak 15 ekor. Dalam penelitian ini diguakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan 5  perlakuan berupa tepung batang pisang dan 3 ulangan. Adapun perlakuan yang dicobakan adalah: P0= pemberian tepung batang pisang 0,00% dari bobot badan berdasarkan bahan kering, P1=pemberian tepung batang pisang 0,25% dari bobot  berdasarkan bahan kering, P2= pemberian tepung batang pisang 0,50% dari bobot badan berdasarkan bahan kering, P3= pemberian tepung batang pisang 0,75% dari bobot badan berdasarkan bahan kering dan P4= pemberian tepung batang pisang 1,00% dari bobot badan berdasarkan bahan kering. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian tepung batang pisang dalam konsentrat berpengaruh nyata (p<0,05) menurunkan jumlah sel darah merah, kadar hemoglobin, dan nilai hematokrit dan berpengaruh tidak nyata terhadap jumlah sel darah putih. Namun dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan nilai hematologis masih dalam kisaran  normal.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat perbandingan pertambahan bobot badan kambing kacang betina yang terpapar dan tidak terpapar matahari. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan di kandang CV. Prima BREED Kelurahan Tondo, Kecamatan Mantikulore, Kota Palu, Provinsi Sulawesi Tengah yang berlangsung dari bulan Juni sampai bulan Agustus 2021. Materi yang digunakan yaitu ternak kambing kacang betina 10–12 bulan sebanyak 9 ekor. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis statistik Uji-t. Perlakuan yang dicobakan yaitu terpapar matahari selama 2 jam (jam 11.00 sampai jam 13.00 WITA, P1)) dan tidak terpapar matahari (P2). Kandang yang digunakan terdiri atas dua kandang utama yaitu kandang beratap terpal yang bisa dibuka tutup dan kandang beratap seng yang terpasang secara paten. Panicum sarmentosum Roxb diberikan secara ad-libitum pada ternak percobaan sebagai sumber pakan hijauan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan tidak memberikan pengaruh nyata (P>0,05) terhadap pertambahan bobot badan, konsumsi bahan kering pakan dan efisiensi penggunaan pakan.
